I've done it to both knees. Once in the weightroom (a bar fell on my knee) and once in basketball practice. My left knee is still perfect, the right one I've hurt a few times, so I have a knee like Gilbert Arenas with the fluid that needs drained from time to time.

Gibert Arenas? So you're saying you can throw up 60 pts on a given night?

Not anymore but we could get our knees drained together.

Gus - even though I prefer to build through the draft over free agency I thought what you were thinking too about throwing games but I think a team should never throw games because switching the mentality of the the team is hard and if you get used to losing players lose continue to lose confidence and it steamrolls - even into next season in my opinion. If this means we get a draft pick 10 spots lower than so be it - and actually this sometimes can be a benefit because if a draft pick is a bust at least the cap hit will be less severe in the long run if you pick farther down.

Dude that is really hard to do. I highly doubt he tore everything.
Unfortunately, it's not as hard to tear all three ligaments as you may think. It happened to me 12 years ago in a college lacrosse game. Complete reconstructive knee surgery including screws and a patellar tendon graft, followed by 6 weeks on crutches, 6 months in a brace, and 12 months of rehab. I was back on the field the next season. Surgical technology/procedure has advanced quite a bit in the years since I went through that, so recovery time is quite a bit less.

I have also dislocated my patella, there was no ligament damage, so recovery time from that was 3-4 weeks. Regardless of the extent of his injury, expect JC to be done for the season. If there was some ligament damage (I hope it is minor, if any at all) then expect him to have surgery very soon and expect a return to the field by training camp '08 at the latest.

Re: JC...how long does dislocated patella take to heal??

I had this injury when I was in high school. For the first 1 to 2 weeks it hurt like hell and I thought that I was going to be on crutches for a long, long time. Then, it started feeling a lot better rather quickly and within 3 to 4 weeks I was walking normally again. So, I'd say there is an outside chance he could play against Dallas, but he wouldn't be 100% and the thing could pop out again at any moment. I never had any surgery or anything and to this day if my knee gets put under pressure in just the right position I can feel it start to go again.

Also, the pain associated with the initial dislocation and the three to four subsequent re-dislocations I have had is EXTREME. What happened was, I was playing basketball in the driveway, drove hard to the hoop, and and smashed my knee on the bumper of the family Oldsmobile. I looked down and my kneecap was facing sideways. I reached down and popped that sucker back in. Owie! I went to the emergency room, where x-rays were negative and the doctor told me to consult a specialist about soft-tissue damage - gristle, tendons, etc I suppose. I never got around to it.

Uh I don't think playoffs hope is all gone.. We still have Collins - I KNOW he's not that great but he is genius and does not make lot of mistakes (*knocks on wood*) we still have chance with Collins.. Unlikely with MB.....

Re: JC...how long does dislocated patella take to heal??

Latest from JLC on JC--JLC will update again soon, apparently. (Note the Auburn curse--I was going to mention that yesterday.)

What I'm Hearing On Campbell

Spoke to some sources close to him who say that barring something crazy showing up on the MRI - and the Redskins and their doctors do not expect anything severe in this case - that this looks like a 4 week injury.

They are reading the MRI now, but the early sentiment expressed to Campbell was that it was "nothing major," and a standard dislocated knee cap. Coach Gibbs might not have the full word when he speaks to us at 3 pm, so we may have to wait until later in the afternoon to speak to Bubba and get the final word on the injury and Campbell's projected recovery.

Also, to continue what has been a nasty trend, this is likely now the 4th member of that 2005 Auburn offensive, first-round draft class to suffer a season ending knee injury. Campbell follows teammate Carlos Rogers, Miami'a Ronnie Brown and Tampa's Cadillac Williams. Strange.

4-6 weeks?? Where did you get that? There's no structural damage, no surgery. A friend of mine from the gym is an orthopedist. He said that as long as there are no bone chips or structural damage (according to Redskins.com neither occurred), then it is just a matter of the pain/swelling going down enough for Jason to be comfortable. He week-to-week right now. I bet he only misses 1 game, maybe 2.

What's the word on Randy Thomas? Anyone hear? I couldn't find anything about it.

Re: JC...how long does dislocated patella take to heal??

JLC reported that Thomas was fine--it was more soreness from getting back. He didn't want a setback so he shut it down. Or something like that.

I think the skins will take JC slow. No need to rush it in the grander scheme of things. Get him healthy and ready for next year, unless he REALLY heals quick.
