Gibbs Post-Game: Redskins-Ravens

Opening Statement:
"From a Redskins standpoint, I think the biggest focus for me right now is that as a team we've got to hang tough. I believe we're a good football team. I told our guys that and I think we're going to have to find a way to work our way through this. I think the natural thing is when this happens, and I've been through this before, is we have to make sure we stay together. That is my central focus for all of us. It's easy, in a situation like this, for someone to say, 'Here's the problem, there's the problem.' I think the biggest thing for all of us is just to hang tough. From a football team standpoint it's tough to do. It's a miserable situation. It seems like when we make a mistake it seems to be something that bounces right into [the other team's] hands. I think the only way to get out of this is to hang together and we're going to have to play our way out of it. I told our team, I think we're a good football team."

On not giving up an offensive touchdown, however, losing the game:
"I feel bad. Our defense played its heart out. They kept us in the ball game. And I think that is what I'm talking about. We have to hang together. The easy thing when that happens, whether it's [special] teams or offense making a mistake and turning things over for a touchdown. I mean it's hard to explain, I don't think I've seen a stretch like that, where on offense when we make a mistake it seems to bounce in somebody else's hands. It's not just a fumble, it's a touchdown so it is hard to explain."

On Mark Brunell's play:
"I think Mark was a reflection of all of us. We were all together on it. Our offense didn't play well. It was a very good defensive team, but we didn't play well. We haven't been playing well. We have to find a way to make things click for us."

On what he is looking to find on offense:
"We've got to make plays. I think it is all-around play. We get a crucial block on a pass-rush and we don't get the block. Those are the kind of things that we are not doing right. [There is] no one thing. I think it is all of us trying to find a bunch of things."

On not getting the ball downfield very often:
"That is something we probably need to study. What we basically do in our passing offense is we take what is there. They played a lot of two-deep today. The play that was the fumble for a touchdown that was going to be a big play. We took a shot on a full blitz and we were going deep on it. And we didn't get the ball off. That is typical of what has happened to us."

On the Ravens' punt return for a touchdown:
"We have to take a look and see what happened on that play. I think those are the things you just analyze. I think we're a solid group over there. It was just a big play today that went there way. We just didn't do a good job of covering."

On being able to turn it around:
"We can turn this around. I told our players that. I believe it, so we'll see. But you've got to make it happen."

On changing things offensively:
"I think we look at everything we're doing offensively. Offense is my deal. I've said that before, that it starts with me. So that is my responsibility."

On coming from behind in the fourth quarter:
"Again, we got in a situation where we are trying to move the ball when we're behind in the fourth quarter. But overall, I think on offense we haven't gotten the job done. We have to find a way to get it done."

I just wonder when they are going to finally make the link between the offense's poor play and the poor play of Brunell. You KNOW the players have got to be losing faith in him. Coles has been jacked up twice and Brunell can't get him the ball. It's one thing to take hits and get a couple of TDs, it's another to get hit and never get the ball thrown in your direction or down the field.
Every week we say the offense didn't play well but sometime the realization needs to be made that the QB is the leader of the offense. The play of the offense is a direct reflection of the QB.

I agree. Pleeeeese put Ramsey in. He can't be any crappier then Brunnel.

This seasons over. Get Ramsey in there and get him all the practice he can get.

Gibbs has to change Brunell at QB. I know he has a lot of faith in him, but there is no harm in changing things to see if we can jump start things.. There are a lot of problems on offense.. the running game is not exsistent.. our O-line can get no push AT ALL. The defenses are putting 8-9 people in the box, and when that happens it is always going to be difficult to run. Also as the commentators pointed out, Portis is more of a edge runner whereas Gibbs system requires more of a powerback like Davis or Duce to run between the tackles and get the hard 2-3 yards. Portis is not built like that to do the job.
We need to get our passing game together though. That is the only way we can take some pressure of our running game. Right now nobody respects our passing game - our QB, or our recievers. N will somebody please tell the coaching staff that u can't expect ur top WR to take hits like that without getting any chance to make something happen.. WHAT WAS BRUNELL THINKING ON THAT THROW?? that was one of the worst displays of QB'ing i have seen in a while.
I AM REALLY FRUSTRATED!!! But I know this team under Gibbs will turn it around.. HE WILL TURN IT AROUND!!

My opinion is this. If we go to Chicago and lose, the season is over, if not already. Time to find out if Patrick is the QB of the future. Get him in there and give him 2/3 a season to see what he can do. If he produces, then he will probably be a Skin for a while. If not, then we see what we have, and make a decision about him in the offseason. I don't think Brunell has played that bad, but the offense clearly needs a spark. The running game (lack of) is really the problem on offense now, but maybe the qb change will help. Deion's INT last night was a result of the ball being under-thrown. Patrick usually over-throws, so that type of INT should not happen. Maybe if we take some shots deep down field early, it will open the running game up and get it the spark that it needs.

Your so intellegent. Are you even a Redskins fan? All I've seen you say " All the qbs in DC stink they must go " and " Joe must go, he stinks "

At least explain yourself with some type of an argument if you want to be taken seriously.
