My problem is; how do you explain the defense going from good 1st half to bad 2nd half on a consistent basis other than the guy calling the defense not making good halftime adjustments or making bad defensive calls in the 2nd half. If there's another valid explanation I would love to hear it because I can't figure it out.

I don't think offensively Gibbs has changed very much, but I guess I was spoiled by watching Richie Pettibone's defense consistently hold small leads for Gibbs.
First off you have only posted 7 games and we have played 14. Did those other 7 game numbers not back up your argument?

It's funny that when it comes to the ultimate team game, people always want to choose a side to assign all the blame to, or certain plays or individuals. Simply said, it's not always that simple.

I'd say it was a group effort on all of our losses and our best group effort to loose was the Pats.

A point that has been overlooked is that GW and the defense, which have overachieved this year, have played great w/ little help from the offense throughout much of the season. I don't know if there are stat's to support it, but our offense is average/slightly below average at best and puts our D in bad situations often.

As far as i'm concerned I hope GW is back and eventually takes over as coach once JG leaves.

In the other 7 games Miami, Eagles, Lions, Pats, Jets, TB and Giants the defense stayed consistent in 1st half vs. 2nd half points allowed, except for the Jets and TB where the defense improved in the second half. My argument is that in 7 out of 14 games we have had serious 2nd half letdowns, to me that indicates a not-so-good trend.

Here's something to consider...Time of Possession. If a defense is on the field long frequent periods of time, they are bound to get tired and run down.

If you look at the Drive Logs found on Yahoo!, you'll notice a trend of the 2 minute or less drives in the 2nd half of most of the games above. If the defense does not get time to rest, they are going to play tired. There is no way to combat that, expect for the offense to hold onto the ball. Part of the problem has been the offense's 2nd half conservation and failing to execute. Most of the games you mentioned, there are many 2nd half 3 and outs, as well as late game turnovers, which can burst any sort of momentum.

Now, don't get me wrong. The defense has had its fair share of problems, but to put it square on Gregg Williams and "bad adjustments" and "bad calls" is not looking at the full picture.

By your reasoning, Al Saunders and Joe Gibbs should both be out as well, since they are failing to make proper adjustments and have made bad calls down the stretch...

You make good points, but I'm not sold though.

For the record, I hope the D plays lights out for the next month and a half and we shock the NFL. I'll then happily stand up and take my

We should consider field position as well.

Next poll question: Should Danny Smith Return?

Not only yes, but HELL yes.

Since 2004, he's squeezed more out of less than anyone could possibly ask for.

Simple 100% yes. Look what the man has done with this defense this season, with one injury after another. With alot of first and second year nobodys. He's done a hell of a job.
