But tell me, how has it been "proven" that he is an idiot? Sure his offenses stunk in Baltimore, but he wasn't picking the personnel, Ozzie Newsome was. Was Fassel supposed to win with Kyle Boller? Or Anthony Wright? How bout the fact that they had basically no WRs? That offense was set up to fail. And that wasn't his fault. Fassel won an NFC Championship and two coach of the year awards in New York. He also developed both Elway and Simms. And when he got fired from the Giants they went 4-12, but were totally decimated by injuries that year. I love Joe Gibbs and overall of course he is a winner, but he was 5 games under .500 during his second tenure. And I think he'd be the first to tell you that's not really cutting it. Sure, he brought stability to the organization and built a great core of players, but apparently that's right back out the window. I could puke.

Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
If this were a Johnny Rockets, Six Flags, or Dick Clark Productions message board we can probably rightfully complain about Snyder only wanting to make money. Because that seems to be his main intent with those companies, to generate additional revenue streams and own multiple content distribution platforms.
That's the business side of Snyder. The Redskins are the fan side..which ultimately is his most basic problem. He's a fan with all the power to make changes. Imagine that any one of you here with all the knee-jerk posts you have every day, and then suddenly you had the power to make all those moves. That's a dangerous thing.

Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
My best friends uncle has 10 tickets in differnt parts of the stadium - all of them are 5 year deals. My brother in law has 2 season tickets that are also 5 year deals as well. In fact every friend of mine that has season tickets are required to have multi-year contracts. The only ones I know of that do not are the partially restricted view seats that had a lot of complaints so Synder backed off - just my experience and knowledge of the season ticket contract thins - you are pretty lucky to get a renewal option.

Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
Personally I wouldn't freak if Fassel is the guy. I always thought he got a raw deal in NY. And when you look at it objectively, he's a proven head coach in this league with a winning record that got a team all the way to a Super Bowl. The same can't be said for GW.

Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
I'm not a big Fassel guy (and in the interest of full disclosure, I'm not a G. Williams guy either) but I'm not really understanding all of the 'sky is falling' mentality here.. Some of the common themes-
"The players will revolt"-They're professionals. They will suit up and play, bottom line. There was a "revolt" when Marty got here and that turned out to be our best season for 5+ years until Gibbs came back. This is a far more talented team than the ones Marty, Spurrier OR Gibbs took over. They'll be fine. "Continuity is ruined. Back to the drawing board."-With virtually every key skill position player in place and under contract, as well as the OL and LB set, we are in great shape to maintain continuity on the field. Yes we will run different systems and JC will/may be learning yet another system. How did the system we ran last year work out for us? Now I am a believer in Saunders and think he was handcuffed by Gibbs but 15th in total offense and 18th in scoring offense isn't what I'd call impressive. Defensively we were back to the top 10 but since we have a largely veteran defense, I don't think learning a new system is going to be that huge of an adjustment. "Snyder is up to his same old tricks!"-Why do we rail against this line of thought when it comes to free agency and the newly measured approach but want to pull it back out to support our argument? I think this search is more responsible than his previous ones. He's gone the opposite route as before. He didn't 'big game fish' by trying to splash with a sexy assistant (Garrett) or a big name college coach (Carroll, Stoops, Ferentz) rather he interviewed highly regarded assistants, internally and externally. If it's Fassel, sure it's not a conventional name, but it's not a 'big name hire' like he's chased in the past.

I hate using logic. It makes me feel like such an outsider.

Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
Paintrain I think you made good points. There would be no player revolt, they'll adjust. But I do think changing systems is an issue. New terminology for the offense to learn, etcetera. More importantly though, I just don't see Fassel being able to replenish the team with equal minds once Saunders and Williams leave. I think the quality of our coaching overall will take a major hit.
Gregg is one of the very best defensive minds in the game. And if he leaves he'll take Jerry Gray with him. Saunders hasn't produced results in a full season yet, but we saw what it can do down the stretch. It's not so much changing of the scheme, it's the potential loss of a great staff that got us to the playoffs this year despite tons of injuries. If we bring in Fassel but manage to keep GW and Saunders, then I'm very happy. I'm not liking that likelihood though.

Re: Fassel meets with Redskins over coaching vacancies
Did someone actually suggest a player revolt? No way in hell that would happen. But the players, Gibbs, AND Snyder have all expressed a desire to maintain continuity. Bringing in a brand new coaching staff isn't continuity. Yes many of the same players will be here, but continuity will not.
