The ONE thing we have lacked since DS bought the team is continuity. So to give that up now -- for what, another spin on the Snyder merry-go-round? --just has to give you a queasy feeling. Honestly, Matty and others, don't you feel just a tad ill? |

SmootSmack,
You are usually one of the most level-headed guys here, but it sure seems like you are in "damage control" mode. Will the fan exodus of this potential move hurt more than the mismanagement of this great franchise? Schneed and redsk1 seem to be right on point. Just look at the War Path's poll, not everyone but an overwhelming majority want GW. As much because of his earning the job HERE, rather than his previous head coaching resume. And Paintrain, what's up with that sig comparing GW to Patrick Ramsey? Williams has had a successful NFL career! Comparing him to a disappointing 1st round pick is simply wrong. For the record, I would like to see Williams as HC, keep Saunders and continue what Gibbs started. I would understand going with a Cowher type HC, but if we have to blow up the entire coaching staff for a "B" level HC, my heart-felt Redskins passion will take a huge hit. |

I'd love to see it. We could afford to cut some dead weight. Truth is all the people hating on this will be loving life if the team wins. I think alot of people have too much emotion wrapped up in this decision and simply can't be objective about it right now. Maybe once the dust settles we'll see some more rational thinking. But for right now it's total freakout mode. |

Joe was a true leader who understood how to motivate, empower, and respect people. What Snyder is showing me here is the classic Old Boy Network in action, and if it goes down like this, I won't be surprised if this whole thing is in flames by week five next season. Just so everyone's clear on the implication I'm making, it's that booting GGggrilliamss because Vinny doesn't like him, and going after The Fossil because "he has ties with Cerrato" are about the worst ways you could run your business if you care at all about what the experts at the bottom who do the work (in this case, the players) think. Real leaders hire smart people and then get out of their way and let them do their jobs.

only because I'd like about 10 others before him other than Williams. I simply think Williams is the clear best choice. I give a lot of credence to an entire staff and lockr room putting their strong support behind one guy. They'd know best about whether the guy can lead and they have said "yes he can and should lead us". That ought to mean an awful lot. I am scared to think what it'll mean when he doesn't get the job honestly. |

There are so many of us here who share in your belief. I'm also of the opinion that despite both Williams, and Fassel being considered rejects, or recycles, Williams is the more appropiate choice for this particular team at this particular time. Maybe Fassel could/would be a good hire, but not at this time. This team is too close to being able to acomplish something significant to have to undergo a makeover. Joe Gibbs leaving this team unexpectedly as he did leaves the team with more unsettled problems than just hiring a new coach. With a new coach comes all types of changes, changes no one in the orginization was/is prepared for.

But I think you and Smooty are both wrong if you think that fans won't be left with a bad taste in their mouth and a general embarrassment at the way Snyder runs OUR team (yes I said ours) if it goes down like this. The reason that fans stuck by Joe in the second half of this season had as much to do with the way he led the team with dignity and passion than it did with the fact that we were winning games nobody gave us a chance in. That same reason is why folks are going to be bitter with Snyder even if he brings in a totally new staff and the team starts winning some games. I don't think Skins fans are content to win a few games and feel like being a bunch of a-holes in the FO is okay as a result. We want to return to the class organization we used to be. Sure, win a Super Bowl and a lot of sins are forgiven, but give me a break, we're all a little tired of crowning ourselves Super Bowl Champs in August and sitting at home watching other teams in the playoffs come December.

And let's not understimate the utter circus and media scrutiny the players will be subjected to from day one of training camp. Can you imagine the silly questions they're going to have to answer. God forbid this team starts out 0-2 or 0-3, it will be chaos around here. |

Re: Coaching Rumor on SportsTalk 980
it will be a complete joke. To have a guy that has learned under a hall of fame coach - a guy that has been loyal to your franchise, but not doing interviews two / three years ago when his name was hot again. To bring in Fassell, subject players to a new scheme again, have to remake the roster again, find a new staff again, to basically spit in your players faces is a joke. the majority of those guys wanted williams and this staff. The teams that consistantly put playoff teams on the field all have one thing in common, that is a stable coaching staff. NE, Indy,Philly,Seattle,Tampa,Giants,Jacksonville. Jacksonville has rode the tough times out with Del Rio, now he looks like he has a team molded in his way of playing. I just can't get over how ridiculous this hiring will be.
another bad move by the organization. This is what happens when you let Vinny help run the thing. He is scared for his job if GW comes in with personal power because he would do the same thing Marty did and fire his ass. So, he goes out and gets a guy that will not be able to do this, that will hire a staff that has ties to Vinny. what a joke. this is why we are continuously the joke of the NFL. We go to playoffs, make changes and stink the following year. Usually teams that make the playoffs may make a subtle change or add a guy here or there, we make whole sale changes like we finished 1-15. its getting easier and easier to understand why we get bashed every year. |

I tell you what I don't get - why is that folks are considered to be freaking out because they don't want Fassel as a head coach?
As someone said earlier, Williams is the "clear best choice." |
