My Car Got Jacked, GPS Gone!
I woke up the other day and found my car with a smashed window and jacked up door. All for what? My Garmin Nuvi, which is inoperable without the pin number or knowledge of my secret location (used to disable the pin). God damn SOBs really did a number on the passenger door (repair bill is $1700).
Anywho, I would advice those of you with a GPS system not leave your GPS system in the car cause thieves have no conscience. Also, the police officer I filed a break-in report with said that even a visible suction cup mount is enough to entice them to break into your car just to see if it's in the car.

Portable GPS units, like Garmin Nuvi, are very hot right now. Gave my wife one about a year ago. I preach to her not to leave in car, especially exposed.
Only can wish they find the thieves, then let you have a moment with them. |

Not only should you NEVER leave those things in your car but you should also make sure to wipe off the little O mark that the suction cup leaves on your windshield if you live in a highly populated area. The mark is usually an indication that you have a GPS and since so many people think that leaving it in the glove box is okay opportunistic/ballsy thieves will break in just check for one.

Re: My Car Got Jacked, GPS Gone!
If you have an alarm system which goes off if you open a door it is better in some situations to leave the car unlocked. I leave my car unlocked with the alarm on around my house to prevent someone from tearing up my door or breaking the window just to run off when they open the door. Now if it is at night and I'm out somewhere I'll lock the doors but not at home or when I'm staying somewhere that I could here it go off. The biggest problem with this is that most of the cars now days come with alarms that can only be activated by locking the doors.
