Bush not showing at RNC
Just wondering what your guys thoughts were on Bush not showing to the RNC. It's been a very long time since an incumbent didn't attend the national convention, (1968 I think I heard was the last time it happened). I know there was the convenient excuse of the hurricane situation, but wasn't the real reason because McCain wants to separate himself from Bush/Cheney? Don't you think it was a pretty significant thing that he didn't attend?

Re: Bush not showing at RNC
I don't think McCain and Bush exactly love one another. I wouldn't be surprised in the least bit if Bush didn't show because of their differences. The Dems would like you to think otherwise, but McCain and Bush are not the same.

Re: Bush not showing at RNC
I actually think Bush is going to completely get out of politics. If I had to place a wager, I'd say he's burnt by all the negativity, and quite frankly doesn't give a crap what the republicans are doing. I think he wants to head back to his ranch and not be heard from for a LOOOONG time.
Not being best friends certainly helps, and I would also not be surprised if the "higher ups" in the republican party asked Bush not to show in order to create that separation. All in all, it's a smart move for the republicans for him NOT to show. There is no positive scenario for him showing up.

Ain't nobody trying to see his ugly mug, not even Republicans. Gustav was a god send for the McCain camp.

Re: Bush not showing at RNC
Everything the McCain campaign is doing revolves around trying to paint him and Palin as change from Bush and the ways of the last eight years. It's definitely no secret that McCain is trying to distance himself from Bush. Smart move, there's no possible scenario where that tactic could hurt McCain, LOL.
They keep touting this "maverick" thing, taking on Republicans and special interests and this and that. They're definitely trying to paint it as change.

Re: Bush not showing at RNC
Well if the reason that he was not there was only to distance himself from McCain having him speak Via satilite link would not have made any sense. I think after Katrina they did not want anything to happen while Bush was at the RNC giving the Dem's aimo to attack them.
The Dems. would have a comercial going showing Bush at the RNC and then showing people suffering and with the tag line of he was not their for you and tying it to the McCain as not carring. |

Re: Bush not showing at RNC
Did anyone see Bill Maher's show this week? Hell they weren't even selling any sort of Bush related merch at the RNC.

That RNC segment was hilarious..."we sold only one Bush pin."
Boy, watching Michale Steel was hard on the stomach. Big time hack.

The RNC bit was funny though, and Maher's analysis of Palin has been both hilarious and spot on. |

Re: Bush not showing at RNC
Michael Steele isn't very impressive, though I must say, the cards are stacked against any conservatives who appear on that show. It's a wonder Maher is able to get any on.
I love his show though -- aside from Maher's stance on the war and foreign policy, I don't agree with much of what he has to say. But what's amazing is that there is actually far more intellectual discourse on Bill Maher than you'll find on Sean Hannity or any other right wing talk show. Plus, nobody is better at mixing good comedy into politics the way Maher does. I only wish he was on every night like he was when he did "Politically Incorrect" on ABC. |

Re: Bush not showing at RNC
If President Bush had showed up, he would've been ripped for going during a natural disaster. He can't win.
