It doesn't matter who coaches the team. They don't have an NFL QB. If I can sit on my couch and know Alex Smith wasn't going to be an good NFL QB how come SF can't? Sometimes I wonder what these teams are thinking.

Re: Updated: Singletary Replaces Nolan as 49ers Head Coach

I lived in San Francisco and watched this guy coach every Sunday on TV or in person..... I remembered screaming at him for all those years when he ran our defense w/norv at the helm. Nolan's a horrible communicator and has no innovative ideas on the offensive side of the ball. Any coordinator can make the Ravens defense look excellent, but Nolan is a chump and will likely surface as a D-coordinator or go to the college ranks.

Mike Martz should be next.

This could be another Linehan < Haslett situation. One thing is for sure though, if Singletary can get his players to have the same intensity he used to, they'll be much improved.

singletary should be better because he's been on the field asking these guys to do something he has probably done many times before.i never thought much of nolan even when he was a defensive coordinator,i thought turner gave him too much leeway.
he got his defense stuck on mediocore, and they never got past that while he was in dc.

Singletary will be a fine coach and an improvement over Nolan. The 49ers problem is their OL sucks in the middle and left side. O'Sullivan is not as bad as people think, if he's got no time then he looks shitty. Another problem is the DB and S positions, Clements is about the only good DB, Walt Harris is adequate but long in tooth. The team has lots of talent with a few holes filled here and there and they could compete.

they have'nt used their number 1 draft picks well either.smith was a wasted pick cause he's gonna get cut in the off season.i think MS is smart enough to figure out,he needs to find a franchise qb in the off season.o'sullivan is good, but he is no longtime qb.

I don't know about o'sullivan being anything close to a good qb. I watched the Giants and 49ers game this weekend, that dude was h o r r i b l e.

Yeah he just isn't starting NFL material. But he sure doesn't get any help from Martz. Martz should follow Nolan after the season is over. Martz always tries to get all 5 guys out in pass patterns totally disregarding pass protection. The Giants just abused SF's o-line. If you've got this guy JT whoever at QB, I'm doing my best to run Gore 30 + times a game and throw it the least amount as possible. He's so arrogant, he thinks he can just put anyone back at QB and run that offense.

ehh i think the worst thing they did was bench alex smith for o sullivan this year...gotta give the man confiences to succeed, nolan will fin danother job he just go stuck with a tough team at a bad time. I dont know if singletary will do any better necessarily than nolan but im sure it will be a motivational factor for his players.

Smith sucks too. It's not like they had any decent options. They should have pursued a veteran QB through free agency. Heck, even Culpepper would be a better gamble. Smith's 19 TDs and 31 picks over 2+ seasons won't cut it. He seems fragile too. but then again he's been pounded so many times by defenders.

O'Sullivan is actually throwing for a lot of yards and TDs, but he's turned into an interception machine like Smith too.

Smith had his chance, another chance and blew his last chance. He's not cut out to be a starter, at least for SF. He should stick to bowling.

Is it Jamie Martin time? They have nothing to lose but more games.

I heard that Chris Berman absolutely went off on the 49ers for firing Nolan. Kinda odd considering Nolan's pathetic W/L record. Is he buddies with him or something?

Singletary is the latest in what seems to be a new trend of hiring coaches that were never even coordinators (Sparano, Harbaugh, some guy named Zorn)

You mean the Jim Zorn who was pegged as the worst hire of all time?
