Yet another reason to love smoot!

Fred Smoot had the other notable highlight during Sunday’s practice: he picked off a Mark Brunell pass and raced down the right sideline, shouting for blockers even though no one was trying to tackle him.

From the latest article on redskins.com. Maybe it's me, but I love his energy! I can just see him yelling for people to come block for him!

Many articles claimed that when we signed the two corner backs it was an attempt to be able to replace Smoot next year. Smoot might not be as elite as Champ but hes clearly better than Brown and Harris. Plus, the energy that Smoot brings is what Gibbs is looking for in his players. While our record doesnt reflect it, our team moral changed last year when Smoot was injured. And it changed again when he came back and played hurt saying that his team needs him.

I hope we find a way to keep him next year, he's looking for a big contract though because he still thinks he should have been a first round pick.

I agree. Hes the one guy I really want to keep next year. I freaking love the guy. Right now in my eyes he is one of the true " Redskins ". Hopefully he will work out for us, but I'm not gonna worry about that till next year.

Smoot is right there at #1 as my favorite Redskin. He and Arrington are neck and neck and Smoot was a little bit ahead because of Arrington's whole contract thing. However, because Arrington says he's staying here for the fans, he's back to tied with Smoot.

Smoot seems like a real Redskin -- good player, great locker room guy -- and if his contract demands are reasonable I hope they keep him. But if he wants Champ Bailey money, they may have to let him go. I think he'll want to be here once he sees where Gibbs can take him. I have a feeling no one's going to be in a big hurry to leave the Redskins anytime soon ... minicamp seems to have pumped everyone up and it's only going to continue.

People people will finally want to be Redskins again. Which means Dan Syder can stop with his foolish contracts and sign players that want to play for us with normal contracts.

I have to agree. People shoud want to be Redskins not by the money alone, but by the rich history many people have forgot about.

I think our record DOES show the team morale when Smoot went down in the Tampa game. We were hanging tough with TB when he went down, and then got blown out in the second half of that game. We had a string of games right after that in which we were beat pretty bad. I remember thinking during that streak that it was a direct result of Smoot not being out there.

I just meant that the record didnt show it becuase we had three wins by then, and once he came back we only ended up with five. Where as when Chad Pennington came back for the Jets, they started winning again.

Smoot is one of the vocal leaders that we have been looking for on the team, and now with the installment of The Great Joe Gibbs it enhances it all. I really cannot wait to see these guys in action. It feels like they have a real will to win. Excitement does not half describe what I'm feeling now.

I have to admit I almost teared up reading all the reviews of the minicamp. Who thought Arrington would say 6.5 million dollars doesnt matter if he loses the fans?!?

Danny boy made the best aquisition he's ever made by bringing JG back to DC. The whole atmosphere has changed. People WANT to play here again!!! Champ really screwed up by not sticking around. Lavar is seeing the light, Smoot will be huge and I can't wait for the regular season to start!!!!!

If Springs doesnt get injured we wont miss Bailey, Portis is a stud and the fact he is a Redskin now could have alone taken our team to the next level.
