Looking for Advice from Season Ticket Holders

I'm looking for some advice from those of you with Skins seasons tickets. After years of being on the waiting list, we were notified in December that our number is up and that we were eligible for season tickets. The timing was perfect because we had just learned that we're being transfered this summer from overseas back to Washington.

So, we've paid our deposit and been told that we'll get seats at the top of the upper deck. The only hitch is that I've got a problem with heights...

Now, we've been offered a 50% off deal on club level seats. The catch is that we need to commit to buying a second year at full price. That's a lot more money than regular tickets.

So, for those of you familiar with the ticket situation, do you think its worth it to go for the deal and go down to club level?

Also, the ticket guy is telling me that after two years I should be able to move down to the lower deck, but would have to wait years to move down from the upper deck. Does that sound true? I'm a little worried about the accuracy of that promise, since I was also told that I'd have a chance to go into a lottery for lower deck seats when I paid my deposit in December but have since been told that there is no such lottery.

(Maybe I'm being too suspicious of the ticket guys, but my life experiences have made be suspicious, I'm afraid.)

I've been looking forward to getting season tickets almost my whole life and now that it's so close I don't want to make a decision that I'll regret. And, since I don't know anyone with season ticket experience, I'm turning to you guys for advice.

I have to say that if you have a serious issue with heights, top of the upper deck may make you a little queazy. It is a hike. It is also much colder as you move into December. Very windy, although they have added a "wind screen" since I sat that high. Club seats are great, as long as money is not an issue, and as for salespeople, well, the normal rules apply. As they say, "caveat emptor". Many "lower bowl" seats are obstructed view which is not a terrible deal money wise, but the ticket guy wouldn't volunteer that aspect of it. Ask a lot of questions. Finally, how worthwhile any of this is really depends on how well the team does, doesn't it? If they make a serious run you will look back and say, "Well that was super". If they suck, you'll wish you had spent that money on shrimp cocktails or something.

LRT, being your in Ukraine, how many games are you really going to attend..? That would be my very first question.

If your going to one maybe two games a year or something pay a little more for Club or Lowers if you do reside in Ukraine and be done with it. Save yourself locking into a six or ten year contract.

If you need tickets for a game or two in Club or Lowers (100's)...send me a PM I will be glad to sell you a couple of games in Prime seating.

And you are correct. I completely missed the move part.

Same post would apply. If your going to be in the DC area for a long period of time or not..? 6 to 10 years..?

If so, and heights are an issue. Then that could be a serious problem. Before making your purchase or decision about what tickets fit your needs. You will be able to check out the seats make your choice at that time.

You can always even go Lower Level with the purchase of the tailgate package. Be sure to ask ALL questions about options before making the purchase.

From experience, mvoing down from the top levels takes some time. We are permanently on a "down and over" directive and are finally getting to some decent of the decent seats in the upper deck after 4 years. Basically anything below row 12 and closer to 50 aren't bad seats. I have pretty bad eyesight and I can see pretty well now. Once you start getting iinto the upper teens and 20's in the 400s then you are talking about some tiny little players and issues following the ball well.

As for the club seats they are CONSTANTLY trying to sell these. They can't sell them out and have never even really gotten close. Based on the types of seats they are I think they are extemely overpriced. They are essentially the 300 level seats so they are "worse" view-wise than many 200 levels and are almost always more expensive. You do get all the club level stuff but if you are a big football fan then that stuff won't matter. It basically allows to you pay thousands to go watch the team on TV or go sit and watch it live and pay more for worse seats than you could have. The food is somewhat better, but costs more and the lines aren't any better. The bathrooms are nicer. as for moving down from club I have no idea. It alld epends on how many people rneew below and the renewal rates for 100 and 200s are VERY high. Those are the sellable tickets so even people who won't go to games still buy them just to resell them. From what I know it takes years to get down there. Maybe having club tickets gives you inside track. I don't know.

I was on the list for 13 years before my wife and I got our tickets. We have upperdeck seats and seem to move to better seats every couple years. Yes it is a hike, as noted my by good friend earlier, however, what a view! The first game I went to I took bino's and a small TV thinking that I'm up in the nose bleed seats Row 27 (there are 29 rows) I won't be able to see the game well. Not the case at all. Didn't need either one.

not to offend the masses, but i honestly like my HDTV over going to the game (400 seats, can be very cold/windy/rainy, lines, hike from the metro, etc).

not being around VA much (AT ALL) the last 2 years kinda helps make that decision for me though .

I agree that i like to watch skins games at home on my HD. I seem to be able to get more in the game when i'm not being told to sit down, dealing with obnoxious fans, or freezing to death from the wind(It's windy in the whole stadium). I try to go to 2-3 games a year with my brother or girlfriend but anymore then that i seem to lose the excitement i get when i walk through the gates.

If they told you 2 years then take it, because it was three for me. I, like you, came up on the waiting list this past December.

Yes it sounds about right.

Here is what they told me.

"Buy tickets in premium seating and have the option to move down in three years. Or buy the cheap seats and move down within 15 years."

Here is what I decided. Given the current state of the economy and the fact that 1 premium seat goes for over 3 grand per season I decided to just take the nosebleeds... hey, I am still at the game. I have a bunch of guys that I tailgate with before the game anyway (It's part of the experience). I figure that by the time I am making even more bank, I can always upgrade to the premium seats then move down after three seasons if I want to. For right now I have my tickets and if it takes me 15 years to move down then I am happy. I, as opposed to you am not afraid of heights.

FYI, the best seat in the house is at home in front of your own TV, but the experience of the game atmosphere is a completely different factor. I would say go at least once for the experience. If you decide that the height is too much for you, then sell your tickets to some other skins fans until you move down into the LL bowl. You will not make your money back, but if you think of it as a long term investment to get the seats that you actually want after years of patience, it will not be a disapointment. If I am never able to comfortably afford the premium seats, then this is the route that I am taking.

I'd like to thank everyone who posted for their advice. The sense I have after reading through everyone's comments is that the club seats are overpriced and not an especially good deal.

However, I'm also thinking that the height issue will throw me up in row 27 - 29.

So, I'm thinking that I might just stick with the upper deck seats but sell them on Stub Hub and buy lower level seats for the games I really want to go see. Does that sound crazy?

I've never used Stub Hub before, so if anyone has I'd be interested in hearing how well it works (both for buying and selling) and do most upper level tickets post there get sold or do they ever end up going begging?

Being overseas right now makes it a little hard to sort through this stuff, but you guys have been a tremendous help.

We're all looking forward to being back home in Redskins Country for a few years. Maybe we'll even see a few of you at a game!

I use stub hub quite often and one nice thing about that is the redskins have a office rite at the stadium. So if you order your tickets late or live in Ukraine you don't have to worry about shipping. I usually only buy seats in the lower 100's and tend to pay around 150-210 a ticket. Yeah i know i'm overpaying but what do you expect.

I agree. My advice on getting season tickets is dont. Now that I have HD getting rid of my season tix was the best move I ever made. I recommend buying a game or two if you really want to see a game live but I dont recommend buying the whole season. It just not worth it.
