Which 2? Collins.Colt.Chase..

A lot of people will say Collins & Colt to be the 2nd & 3rd QB's on the depth chart. But some should remember that Chase was a Heisman candidate also and not a bad QB at all. I think we were lucky to have him fall in our lap. All rookies don't pan out of course. But would you take your chance with Collins (back up QB) over Chase (3rd QB) because he is a veteran or go for the upside.

That being said please add this to the equation. Collins was the product of a system in which he was in for over 10 years. He did lead us to a win streak a couple of years ago but stunk it up in the playoff game vs Seattle. This current system is not that system. May be why he looked so horrible last preseason. So what are your thoughts. I think Colt has gained enough experience (in this system) to be our starting QB after he sits on more season and Chase could also be a vaulable project after one year on the sidelines..

Re: Which 2? Collins.Colt.Chase..

It would be nice to have two very young backup QB's. But, given that the #2 is just one play away from being the starter (a la Tom Brady/Matt Cassel), I don't see Zorn allowing anyone but Collins to be that #2. Collins may have been a Saunders-system product, but he still understands what it takes to win in the NFL better than Colt or Chase.

I would be happy to see Colt take over at backup and Chase be #3 but I wouldn't hold my breath just yet.

Agreed. Not much experience there.

I'd love to see Colt at #2 (I'm on the Colt bus, but what female isn't?) but it's probably going to be Collins. He's proven to be a solid second stringer. I think Colt could use a little more fine tuning before letting him take over #2 and Collins isn't going to be in the league much longer anyway (I'm assuming. He is up there in age)

Ideally, I'd love to show Collins the door and let our 3 young QBs take over the position. However, with Campbell seemingly in question, that could set us up for a very scary 2010 season.

Seems a lot of you are pretty eager to move forward with Chase on the roster, someone who was not even considered to have an NFL skill set coming out of college. Collins has proven himself capable of coming off the bench to win big games in December, which is really all you can ask of backup QB. He should be number 2 as long as the team is in playoff contention.

Re: Which 2? Collins.Colt.Chase..

djnemo, I simply don't think Collins is very good. He had a lot of experience in Saunders system, and I feel like he was the only person in DC that fully grasped it, thus he was able to perform well. I'm just not sure how big of an asset Collins is to our team.

However, I don't feel comfortable possibly going into 2010 with Colt, Chase, and some rookie QB.

If we started with Colt,Chase and a new QB next season
I think we wouldnt be any worse off than we are now. I mean its not like JC is throwing for 300 yds a game and carrying the team on his back. now if CP goes down then id say we are in trouble. But i think next draft we get CP an heir to replace him in the future. We also need to beef up the Oline.

JC gets better every year and is young enough to have many years ahead of him. What this means is that if we let him go, there's a good chance that he goes somewhere else, does well, and perhaps beats us.

Re: Which 2? Collins.Colt.Chase..

Colt and Daniel are both too raw for the backup role. I want someone with more experience in there.

Collins is not talented and I question how well he's assimilating to Zorn's offense (largely because of a lack of info from the media on the subject). But he's smart, and the team respects him. He'll take care of the ball.

Being young guys who are learning, Colt and Chase are likely to be turnover-prone, which would kill us. I'd rather have the vet; while he won't do much to win a game for us, he won't do much to lose it either.

Given that Daniel can be stashed on the practice squad this year, I don't see why we'd go any other route. Next year there's more of a decision to make.

Re: Which 2? Collins.Colt.Chase..

Well if we let JC go then that means he didnt get it done. Some say he isnt a good fit for the WCO. that he is more of a deep passer than a short timing kind of QB but if he does leave i wish him the best as long as he goes to the AFC
Colt probably would have some turnovers but thats what comes with guys who take chances. high risk high reward. so you have to take the good with the bad but i would hope there are more good plays than bad ones.

Re: Which 2? Collins.Colt.Chase..

This is interesting, but why do both our back-up rookie QB's have personal websites, and our starting NFL quarterback JC has nothing..

Chase Daniel.org
Colt Brennan website

I'd stick with Collins for now. Chase has no experience and Colt doesn't have much more. However, I have this gut feeling we'd be fine with Colt or Chase if they needed to start. Of course, that's just like my "gut feeling" two years ago that the real estate market would be fine when I bought my condo .. Sigh..

Re: Which 2? Collins.Colt.Chase..

Im not sure about Collins, his age is a factor and this isnt the offense he knew most of his career which gave him the 2 spot when Al Saunders was here. Should JC go down or get benched id feel confident that Colt could put us in position to win games.

I cant wait for the preseason games to start so we can see our rookie class on the field.plus i want to see Thomas,Kelly and Davis. I hear they were very good in the OTA's

Just an FYI, that's a fan site of Chase Daniel. Not an official site

Can we at least open training camp before we decide?
