Re: Samari or Freddy?

he's there to be a backup(wilds). we have to sign a good corner to go along with springs. i like smoot but i feel rolle is a better corner , so therfore he's going to cost a little more but like i stated earlier greg williams probably wants rolle more so than smoot.

Re: Samari or Freddy?

true but if everything falls through do we need to spend 14+ million on a second CB i would be fine spending tops 12 for smoot and 10 for anyone else. If we are going to spend 14 million i say we get rolle not smoot. we need LEEEET CBs for that money and i trust GW's descion and what he says

Re: Samari or Freddy?

If Rolle is better at blitzing the QB than Smoot was, then I could understand why Williams wants Rolle. I saw Smoot last year miss a couple of sacks because he kept his head down and didnt see the QB side step him, or he tried to arm tackle the QB instead of just making a good open field form tackle.

Although CB's usually are not asked to rush the QB that often so I kinda let that slide with Smoot, I mean CB's are needed in coverage and run support not rushing the QB.

As for heart, Smoot is all heart and then some, he just loves to play the game hurt or not.

Re: Samari or Freddy?

I think the talks with rolle are happening for a couple reasons...
A) To take away leverage from Smoot
B) As a safety net in case smoot is justs delaying a decision until march 2nd to take a look at other offers regardless of the skins offer (the skins FO arent the only people allowed to be shady)
C) We got a steal on springs since he was injured, and getting a CB like rolle cheaply is a hard thing to do...
D) Of all the CBs on the market, rolle is the best option for us (he's 28, knows the defense and is a better cover corner when healthy, and will be cheap price/performance right now)

Why not try for ty law?
Ty law is older and much more expensive... he also has never played for williams defense.

I've watched rolle play, and he's GOOD... i can see him getting 7 ints next year... the only knock on him is his injuries and how much they're going to affect his play in the future...

The only thing better than having the best #2 CB is having two #1s... and then former starter walt harris and wilds as your backups... crazy...

I'll trust williams for now, since he's the only capable GM in the FO right now... and remember, even if we give smoot what he wants, he might just delay till the 2nd and walk anyways.

I love Smoot and the way he plays with such heart, but should we pay him top 5 corner type of money just for the sake of holding on to a 'leader'?
Quote:
I wouldn't say for the sake of a "leader" but I would say for the sake of someone who we KNOW what we are getting. There's no guarantee that Rolle would pan out.
We had no gaurantee springs would pan out either... and he only got a $10mill SB (and he's not bitter either).

That is another good point in continuity. My question is though is Smoot the best for that position. In Coach Gibbs previous tenure he won 3 superbowls with 3 different qbs not much continuity there.
He did have continuity at other spots though... like monk and green... oh yeah, and gibbs.

Like i said would i spend 15 million on a defensive player? NO but if we are that is none of our descision i would like to spend it on TY if possible but again if GW is feeling good about Rolle i will trust that mans descions i mean pierce and marcus washington's breakout years that is his credit
If you think Ty is going to come here for 15$mill and not get a better offer, you're smoking (champ got an $18mill bonus and 63mill contract, ty left the pats cause he wanted the same type of deal... add to that that champ left the skins because they refused to pay him that kind of money... in other words, it aint happening). Rolle has PLAYED for williams, he's younger and he's very cheap in comparision... you might feel comfortable not replacing smoot if he leaves, but obviously williams might not be, and since he's the guy on defense, that's really his call. I do agree that we seriously need mason (prefered) or one of the top 3 WRs from the first round though.

You seem a bit hypher today, I think half the posts on this thread are yours... and they all basically say the same thing

probably when our own players are clearly better than free agents from other teams and that ain't the case in this situation. especially when the player brought up on our team says he is doing his best to stay here and yet his camp keeps further increasing his asking price and overestimating his worth and talent.
this is somewhat of a wash talent wise, except Rolle has been less prone to fakes but is a bit more brittle, the deciding factor in this situation, like others have said, is which one Greg Williams wants more. After what he did with our defense last year, he knows about this way way the hell more than any of us do.

THAT GUY, I was checking out your website and saw you played a lot of same venues as this band I used to advertise for. You ever hear of Lex Vegas or Grindhouse?

Freddy and the Jets?

http://www.newsday.com/sports/printe...y-sports-print

Quote:
Redskins cornerback Fred Smoot also is believed to have emerged as an option for the Jets, who quietly are looking for a dramatic upgrade to their secondary when the free-agent period begins tomorrow.

A second person familiar with the Redskins' thinking from conversations with team officials said yesterday that the cornerback position is paramount in the snagged talks to trade Coles for Moss. The Redskins cannot find the salary-cap space to trade Coles and sign free-agent cornerback Samari Rolle, the person said.

Re: Samari or Freddy?

thinking about it a bit more... keeping smoot really would be prefered, but rolle isn't a bad player himself (i think he'd be a better blytzer, hope he stays healthy)...
