Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins

I don't know what to think of Mayock anymore. I know he has to look at every prospect but just now he questioned Clausen's work ethic and leadership. The leadership I can kind of see though I do think it's slightly overblown. The part that ticked me off was the criticism of his work ethic. The one thing I've constantly heard about Clausen, even from his detractors (Mayock aside) is that he's a film rat and spends a LOT of time watching film. To have that out there and question his work ethic is kind of reckless if you ask me.

Also a funny thing to keep in mind is that if Quinn had been a hit then Clausen would easily have been in the running for first pick in the draft.

It's all of these Notre Dame haters. McShay is at the top of the list. They try to paint this guy in the worst way and he is the most NFL ready QB coming out this year.

THANK YOU!!! That's what I've been saying and he can make the throws and move around in the pocket if need be. This guy could be our Peyton Manning!

I am no Claussen fan, but he really does take too much criticism, most of it seems unwarranted. Every interview I have seen and heard with him has been impressive, and in no way shows any faults in his personality. He was a unanimous Captain of the team, and most of his criticisms have come from anonymous teammates, reporters, and scouts. It appears to me that there were a few bad apples on his Notre Dame team, and he is taking the heat for all of them.
I do prefer Bradford myself, but Claussen is gaining my respect for how he is handling this onslaught of negative perceptions. I am finding it easier to root for him the more he gets pounded on.

Agreed. My only problem though with Clausens interviews is hearing virtually the exact same laundry list everytime. Although it's pretty obvious that he's being asked the same questions time and time again. I personally really like him as a QB prospect but at the same time it's really hard to project these guys. Kind of like Butler making it to the finals. Still having a coach like Shanahan really helps your chances of getting a hit and the craziest part is that Kyle might be better right now then his father in that regard.

He might not be a Manning, but I hate the way ppl blow shit up like this. Painting him in this horrible light without first hand knowledge of him not being a good leader, right before the draft. We have never heard anything but positives about his work ethic previously. I think Mayock and McShay are fickle assholes who need to shut up, and report on facts and their opinions of talent, not saying that they are definitively a bad leader and have a questionable work ethic without a name or some proof to back it up.. Shit, my anonymous source told me that Jared Gaither is retiring to become a professional chess player and follow his dream of becoming a spinal surgeon...... This is a talented quarterbacks/young mans shot at life, dont try to fuck it up for him just to get a 2 minute spot on NFL network by revving up the rumor mill.

mcShay and mayock, you guys are just pathetic.

If I had to bet the mortgage, I would bet that he is the next Brady Quinn over being the next Peyton Manning.

Come on now...

Just like Aaron Rodgers was the next Joey Harrington or Kyle Boller? Better yet that Peyton Manning was going to be the next Tee Martin? Every player and situation is different. The system they come from can only give you so much of an idea.

Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins

Yeah...I am going to have to echo the last few thoughts on this thread. I am really impressed by how Clausen has handled himself and in light of the fact that Oklahoma had that ridiculous offensive line, Clausen's productivity this last year is that much more impressive.

I am still keeping my fingers crossed for Okung or that we trade down a little but would not mind in the slightest if we picked up Clausen.

Peyton Manning is arguably the greatest QB ever. EVER.

This guy isn't even the highest rated QB in this draft.

Let's be reasonable and take a step backwards.

Alright most likely not Peyton Manning but certainly not the Cleveland version of Brady Quinn (Denver version TBD).

Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins

Even the staunchest Clausen defenders will tell you he was an arrogant prick (though always very talented, maybe because he was very talented) throughout high school and his first couple of years in college. He seemed to have matured this past season, and he's saying all the right things in the weeks leading up to the draft.

But at this time of year, every prospect is repeatedly coached on what to say, how to act, and it's a somewhat controlled environment. He's not having to answer questions immediately after a loss at this point.

So the question with Clausen is is this new found sense of responsibility and maturity the new Clausen or just something temporary? It's like Tebow in a way, he's doing great with his new throwing motion right now, but what happens when the environment isn't controlled. Will he resort back to what's he most comfortable with?

All that said, I'd be perfectly happy with Clausen under center for the Skins.

So did we learn anything about Clausen's visit with us yesterday? Any news?

He made a great impression, whatever that means

It could mean two things. It could be the front office trying to tempt other teams who need a QB to trade with us for that pick, or, like it or not, we are looking to draft him.
