Re: The Official 2010 NFL Draft Thread: Round 1

At least we got a stater at LT....and didn't do anything stupid...thats a plus for the skins...remember 2 WR and a TE in the 2nd? a TE? and no OLINE help until too late?

Anyways...good news although it may be dead now that it was pre-draft chatter by a couple hours....
Redskins Insider - Redskins reportedly reach out to Saints regarding Jammal Brown
Skins talking to Jammal Brown.
It would be cool because if we got him, both our tackles would be from the same school

That's exactly what Haynesworth said in the only interview he's given since the season ended. I dont know where people get the "I don't want to play NT" quote from. He never said he didn't want to play the position, he let it be known it wasn't his prefered position, but that he would play wherever they wanted him to play. It's a made up story designed to give credence to whatever dislike some people (for various reasons) have for the man. I watched the interview so I know exactly what he said.

I have no regrets about Davis, I am still unsure about Kelly and Thomas.

Every team passed on Brees and Favre in the first round. Almost all passed on Marino, Dan Fouts was a 3rd rounder. Just because a guy falls in the draft doesn't mean he's automatically garbage. Historically, 2nd rounders haven't fared too well. I expect Clausen will beat the trend like Brees and Favre.

As I said before, it's not just people on this site, the high-profile NFL Draft analysts all expect Clausen to be a good NFL QB.

Also, Kafka and Stull played weekly competiton that was superior or at least had parity with their own respective teams and got their teams into bowl games. A Stull or Kafka is more likely to make it in the NFL than a Tebow for the reasons mentioned in my previous post. Unlike the Magic 3, these not so known QB's can probably hold their own better. Give me a QB that actually made his team better than a QB on a loaded powerhouse playing inferior opponents most weekends.

Clausen made ND better. Without him they would've been 3-9 or worse. ND today unfortunately isn't ND prior to the early 90s. There talent is on par or sub-par with their opponents.

I will never forgive Vinny nor forget that DeSean Jackson was on the board when we selected Davis. Then again, Ray Rice was on the board when he selected Kelly

Agreed. I am still not hating on that 2nd round trio at all- hindsight is a b. IIRC, that was two drafts ago. Our line wasn't exactly filled with world beaters, but it wasn't even close to how bad it is now. Samuels, Rabach, and Thomas (coming off injury, he played all 16 games in 2008 anyway) were solid.

The problem was the lack of offensive playmakers the previous year. Everyone on this board was complaining about the non-existence of a vertical game all year long, so we went out and got weapons. Ironically, the most grief during the 08 draft was actually towards Davis (since we had Cooley). At the time, I felt we got a steal in Fred (who was the best TE in college football).

It's simply amazing when you think about the fact Kiper's early mocks had him going a high as #4 and to who? There were a lot of people on board, but I never believed it because there were people then saying he may not even be taken in the 1st round at all....they were right.

God, Vinny Only he would mess up a great move like trading down for two second round picks including one at the top of the second. Ironically though Thomas and or Kelly could end up being great picks now that we have McNabb but I still say it's overkill. I still think though that Marko Mitchell will turn out to be something special, especially given Shanahan's competition theme which hopefully won't discriminate against rookies like our previous "offensive guru."
