Re: Suspect Safety Play

There were so many things that went wrong in the fourth quarter and overtime, to single out Reed is not fair.

I did not like the all out blitz on the critical 3rd and 15 that they converted. I think we can blitz one or two and still cover on that play. All out blitz was not necessary.
Also perfectly stated, that's what I've saying. All that blitzing will come back to haunt you. What's the best way to beat a blitz? A short pass up the middle or a screen. What did the Texans do? Just that, plus play action that the defense kept biting on over and over.

Phillip Buchanon would like to thank everyone in here who is bashing Doughty. And would like everyone to forget how he left Andre Johnson one-on-one with Doughty.

The 50 yard screen pass / run by Arian Foster was just killer. I love the aggressive attitude, but I agree that we can't leave the DBs out on an island so often.

To me that was the turning point in the game. If we stop them on that third and 15, then we open the 4th quarter with a 17 point lead and the ball. Instead, that one play caused momentum to change completely.

We got to start to mix it up more. Live by the sword die by the sword.
Haslett needs to be more balanced and more patient. We do not need to blitz and sack the QB on every pass play. Predictable!
I also thought or hoped we would mix in some or a minuscule amount of 4-3 defense. I am surprised we do not run any 4-3, even if it is a little bit. Just to confuse the shit out of them.

Yes and No, our ofense had opportunities to put the game away in the fourth quarter on offense. The missed field goal was the real kicker.

That and CP blowing the conversion on 2nd down deep in the Redzone, just before the Brown false start. He just stumbled one yard short, if he had his legs underneath him he could have scored. I wonder why he has that problem at times, I don't know if he just gets ahead of himself or what, but he has had problems with that the past few years.

Re: Suspect Safety Play

I'm really hoping that Kareem Moore comes back and plays lights out so we can stop complaining about how we need a starting NFL free safety to replace our backup strong safety who had to be shifted over to free because there was nobody else. Reed Doughty may not be a playmaker other than the occasional batted ball and maybe a pick once in a while, but he plays hard. And he probably gave it everything he had on that play, it's just that Andre Johnson isn't called a top 3 wideout in this league for nothing. Obviously there will be a lot of second guessing about that play, and I am doing a little myself, but I just hope it comes down to being a learning experience so we can get things right next time. We play a lot of good passing offenses this season and we won't win games if we can't stop it.

Let's not get to ahead of ourselves! The season has just begun, and this offseason was one of the longest in recent memory. I am rady for some more football!

for some reason you're blindly apologizing for Reed

I like the guy, love his attitude

hell his positioning on the one play was pretty solid

he's been a step behind in both games so far and I'm not sure how anyone could argue that

for those of you that see this and remember the reel of Sean Taylor highlights that he provided, look at each play, not a single one of those shots were in the 21 jersey.. that's rookie year highlights only

I still tear up every time

this I'll agree with you on no doubt, the big D play isn't necessarily what a D should be aiming for every time, being timely and showing aggression when needed takes reading the O very well.. something that 2G has done with the Saints but lost with us it seems

I'm sold on the 3-4 defense, but not in doing so with whom we have
