And don't get me started on D. Hall.

Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread
I agree, especially when we are blitzing on 3rd down 90+% of the time. Coverage has to be tighter against the blitz especially on 3rd down. If you are giving up quick slants, bubble screens, and skinny posts for first downs on 3rd and 7+ ytg there is a problem with the coverage behind the blitz.

Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread
This was the worst game for our run defense this season, and our pass defense certainly wasn't good (enough) in this game. It was a below average performance from the defense overall.
The offense was worse. Turnovers, three and outs, zero ability in the passing game. Just ugly. We ran the ball better than in the past, which is a lone positive. If you can't pass, you can't win, and we can't pass right now (last week's dominance of a poor Texans defense aside).

Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread
The defense is suppose to be the strength of the team though. We already know the offense is below average. This has been a top ten defense with many of the same guys. So how do we go from top ten to dead last?

Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread
First of all, most of you sound like a bunch of impulsive women. Man up and have some patience.
Second of all, it's clear that some of you don't know jack about 3-4 defense, yet you're calling for Haslett to be fired. Lastly, people can learn new things, but you have to be willing to give them time and suffer through mistakes. Mistakes are a part of learning. This is how PROGRESS is made. I'm not saying we'll be better at the end, but we've got to find out. Progress isn't easy. Don't panic and start whining at the first sign of adversity. Be strong and weather the storm in hopes that we'll be better in the end.

Our coverage units have been pretty soft all year, which isn't a positive, but it would have been a problem in a 4-3 zone-blitzing defense as well. Biggest difference in this game is that Kareem Moore can cover, but he can't tackle. Essentially, I don't think he's an improvement over Doughty, but we lose some run defense for some pass defense.

We need to improve in every phase of the game right now. The D is the most obvious, but the offense and special teams need a lot of work too. |

So funny, this all sounds like the same old song we were singing late last year, the year before, so forth and so on. Disgruntled with the coaching staff, perplexed with the scheme. Not happy campers.

Hall was simply terrible yesterday. After all that talk he goes out against WR's that are worse than ours and plays like a girl. I just don't get the guy. He needs to keep his mouth shut cause he's not good enough to back it up on the field.

I don't know if we're any good as a defense this year. I do know we have the same strengths and weaknesses as we did last year, and that staying with what hadn't been working in the past would have been a poor way to try to avoid becoming a slightly weaker version of the same unit. I'll listen to any argument that suggests we just don't have the talent around studs like Orakpo and Fletcher and Landry to be successful. We may or may not. That remains to be seen. I do know that if we're going to have a "defense has major issues thread", we should at least be able to identify a couple of those issues. If the problem with the defense is a talent deficiency, that could be a major issue. If the problem is "we lost to the Rams and need to scapegoat something", well, now I'm the one who doesn't care.

We started two drives that deep in opponent territory all of last year (both in the Panthers game). We've already matched that this season. The offense, to date, has been worse than last year. I've been impressed with McNabb and Williams, and Portis' blocking. Disappointed with everyone else. Can't see how Casey Rabach starts next week. Even cats only have 9 lives.
