Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins at Eagles)
I am sorry that I want and expect more from this team. Is it too much to ask for them to put together a whole game? they are playing like shit...there iys no denting that. Are they making progress? Sure. Is that good enough for this team to go anywhere? I don't see it.

Mooby, GB switched to the 34 last year and struggled early on.

Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins at Eagles)
But they never trailed the entire game. The played physical football with two of their starting OL out for most of the game, if not all. They shut down one of the best playmakers in the game. They won a tough road against a division opponent, and apparently all that is overlooked and ignored. With very few exceptions every winning team has to win a few games like this. It's not always complete game cakewalks.

Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins at Eagles)
I told anyone who would listen to me that the Eagles would lose.
One: we always play good in Philly for some reason. Two: McNabb was going to play good no matter what. Three: The Eagles just aren't that good, even with Vick playing out of his mind. That being said, Heyer is dogshit. And it is about effing time they play Haynesworth more and it is about effing time they play more 4 man fronts. If we were lucky to beat Dallas, we were just as unlucky to lose to the Texans, so whatever. We are #1 in the East and have been for 3 out of 4 weeks. So it is what it is. We are probably losing next week but I would bet a lot of $ that we play hard. |

Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins at Eagles)
The negativity is due to over a decade of promising seasons going down the drain. To be honest, the kool aid folks help set the tone. You get a ton of hurrahs and SB dreams every preseason that is full of optimism due to a new regime, players, etc, and of course this season is going to be different stuff. A lot of folks were stoked over Norv, Marty, Spurrier, Gibbs coming back, and even Zorn, along with the assorted free agents over that time period and draft picks. I mean come on, this team has been a tremendous tease with all the changes and flashes of being an excellent team even in losing seasons, only to let us all down. ANd yeah, I am glad we won, and will take a W anyway we can, but you have to admit this game for both teams was really ugly offensively. When your hotshot probowl QB ends up with a 60 QB rating, it wasn't a productive day.

I don't understand how we can be upset if we see clear improvement from last year, knowing we are in a rebuilding phase. Everything that happened pre-Allen/Shanny is the past. Learn from the mistakes and move on to the future. It starts with rebuilding, acquiring talent and giving the players a chance to succeed. A chance involves several full seasons and not a judgment after 4 games, especially if you are 2-0 in the NFC East.

You just have to realize this is a game that in the grand scheme of things doesn't affect any of us.

Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins at Eagles)
I wasn't aware of that, but did they struggle enough to blow a 17 point lead and were also nearly last in yards given up and 10 play drives given up?
Now granted we're only 4 weeks in and there's a lot of football left to be played, but so far we experienced more of a dropoff than I figured. Some of what I've seen is poor tackling, some I feel is the result of overthinking and being too slow to react, but I didn't think it would be this bad. Like I said before there's plenty of football left to be played and they did play much improved d today, so I'm not going to judge them too harshly anymore. I'm probably gonna hold my tongue for the rest of the season in fact because I feel like there isn't a good enough sample size to accurately judge what kind of defense we will have for the rest of the season. |

Which is exactly why I have no problem setting high expectations, and appreciating when they make good plays (heck even when they're lucky) and win. Why not enjoy the damn game?

On another note, I don't care if we give up the most yards in the league. If we can hold teams to FGs that's fine.

Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins at Eagles)
For people who argue that this game was meaningless, I disagree. Any game where you have a chance to take the division lead is a big game. They have won two big games this year. Maybe at the end of the year it doesn't mean much but right now it means everything.
