Interesting how CP was supposedly the Skins top RB but all anyone talked about was his blocking, not his running. IMO, that show CP just wasnt an explosive top flite RB anymore. If CP is done I dont think it will be much of an adjustment for the O to have someone else carry the load.

I watched a little of the game sunday & got to see Betts get a couple carries. He looks the same, still hits the hole quickly. I thought it was a hasty cut but I can see the logic, 30 yrs. old coming off an acl tear. He could still be here & he'd even become a decent blocker over the years.

Even though I thought Torrain would have made the initial cut, I don't trust that he can be a starter in this league....I wish it...but wishing doesn't make it true...and a good GM should never put his trust in a wish. I bet Portis would have done great this year if the blocking was there...that is the real issue...this team has only had 1 game with decent rushing numbers so far...so don't think the situation is resolved.

I like the idea of trading DT for a good back if needed.

And as for Gibbs ruining Portis...that's BS...he a RB...you run him till his tongue falls out when all you have is a running game....then you get a new one.
Remember...he got us to the playoffs twice. At least Gibbs USED all his talent...

The current coaching staff has been a bit guilty of the latter.

It's not so much about people hating on Portis as it is the realization that all good things must eventually come to an end.

You won't get much of an argument relevant to Portis's skills as a blocker, but to be depended on week in and week out as your featured back, he has to maintain a combined skills set both as a runner and a blocker and be able to stay on the field. His assortment of injuries over the past few years are beginning to take their toll, it's evident his abilities as a runner have visibly declined. Again, not hating on Clinton, just recognizing the obvious, something I don't think is lost on him as well. Like many good r/b before him, they often find it hard to admit to themselves the fact their skills may be [to some degree] diminishing.

if we want to pick up lynch we better make more of an offer then the eagles who seem to be expecting vick to be out for some time if they are looking to improve their running game. there is a link on espn about the eagles contacting buffalo yesterday. also there is a pod cast on the espn nfl page about torain, hes talking about his role in the offense.

Well, his running is also going to be missed. He's not a workhorse #1 back anymore, but in a RB tandem he's certainly good enough.

This is all speculation... Nothing can be confirmed from ESPN or Florio.

Hopefully it is not too serious, trainers were stretching CP's groin before he went down.

A "pop" doesn't sound good but Steven Jackson played this week vs the Seahawks with a partial tear of his groin

I agree. I think part of Portis's problem is the fact that when he first arrived Gibbs wanted him to gain weight. He wanted Portis to be a power back when in reality Portis was a shifty back. However Portis did gain the weight and performed admirably. Then when Gibbs left Portis was not the same after he decided he was going to lose weight and become the shifty back again.

I'm not in any way saying Portis sucked, just pointing out that I think Portis was forced into a roll he should not have been forced into then for whatever reason lost a step trying to lose weight. Perhaps part of it was due to age though.

So what are you saying here? All my statements were true. I'm not the only one that sees something in Torrain. In time so will you. He has shown as much as anyone else on the Skins did. It was a 1 quarter game for everyone.

I would be more concerned about McNabb if I were you. At the slightest bit of pressure he's throwing the ball at the ground.

Torain can't block for squat, but blocking is coachable, being on the downward trek of your career is inevitable, which I feel is where Portis is going. His better years are behind him, the guy is a 2nd stringer, 3rd down back at best.

Every game if we're counting trucks on blocks...ask DeMarcus Ware if CP can still lay people out.
