Axelrod hits Romney for 'Bermuda tax shelter' - Yahoo! News

I'll have to give Axelrod bonus points for the use of the words MPP-the Mittness Protection Program.

There is no way you can spin this, its an obvious tax shelter that the wealthy across this country use everyday. So not only do they enjoy the benifits of unfair tax rates, they also can hid there additional money offshore. Is this hypocritical country great?

I love how you say your an independent when its clear your a liberal. You can point to a few post you have made against Obama but its like 500 to 1. So I guess its wrong to invest or own a company over seas now?

What's clear is you have no clue what you are talking about. I refer back to this post I made in regards to Obama. I suggest you overlook the stuff in there. That's quite a few things against Obama, but if you would rather, I can post a link for each incident just to make you feel all warm and snuggly about my party affiliation. This one link alone outnumbers anything I've posted in regards to the GOP goons.

Here is a good start.

What has Obama done so far?

There is only one question, why Bermurda and Cayman Islands? Is there alot of Bain Capital or Mitt Romney business there? Is he down there working on something?

These are clearly tax shelters. Mitts not the only one using them, thousands from the US cheat their government out of tax money like this each year. I would just like 1 person to admitt it.

Not sure? Maybe it was a good investment so he took advantage of it. Seems like they did no investagating on his investment but assuming he did so to avoid taxes is purly specultion at this point. So I guess the 50% of Americans that pay no federal income taxes are also tax cheats or is that just left for the rich. He did pay 6.5 million in federal taxes last year.

The guys writing the tax code into law could shut this down in a heartbeat with a flat-tax or the Fair Tax. Check out some of the tax shelters here in the U.S. like Wyoming and Delaware. Check out a "Delaware Trust", crazy stuff.

I don't have the kind of $$$ to take advantage of these loopholes, but if I did, I would in a heartbeat. Why would I pay a dime more to the Fed than I'm forced to? All that will happen is the crooks spending that money will be shoveling it whichever way helps their political career....or to fill the pockets of whoever/whatever special interest is pulling their strings.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election (free for all edition)

So its ok when the wealthy cheat on taxes, but its not ok 51% dont pay? Under the same logic, if the poor cheat on taxes, your good with that too? So if its a tax free for all, your good with fraud in medicare, welfare claims, and general social services, because thats just money politicians are hoarding and spending for their own gain? Its stealing from services that support our country!

If the story is true about the Bermurda money not claim, then thats flat out tax evasion. The Caymen island accounts is just so typical of a money whore rich american.

From the Yahoo! link above i dont see any reference to fraud or tax evasion or doing something illegal? Is what Mitt did just publicly distasteful, or could this be truely construed as tax evasion?

i would equate a cayman island account to an earned income refund when you paid no taxes to begin with. Both can be done legally. Both give fuel to the other side of the debate's arguments and frustration with our system.

I agree with CR's post at # 134. The wealthy aren't "cheating" on their taxes, they're simply working within the rules set forth by gov't. That being said, those who don't pay any taxes committing fraud in fed programs are straight out stealing. They're taking something they haven't paid anything for.

The top 1% pay approximately % 40 or so of federal income taxes. This begs a larger question, why should the wealthy have to pay a higher % in tax than someone who's poor. Does a wealthy person use more of the federal highway system? Does the military protect the wealthy person more than the poor person from foreign aggression? Does the Medicare/SS serve the wealthy more than the poor person?

Let's not forget all the wealthy aren't just the "evil, rich, country club republicans". Many of the rich are Dems....but as long as they can influence members of Congress to protect their interests it makes sense to send a few thousand to Dems/libs. There are many areas where you will never have a R/con congressperson.

I'm not OK with Medicare, Welfare and other types of fraud, of course not it's against the law. If you've followed my posts over the years, I support FairTax, you can find info on it here: www.fairtax.org

FairTax will be revenue neutral, closes the tax loopholes used by the very rich and is a point-of-sale tax. Same rate for everyone, rich buy more they're taxed more.
