I'm about wiped out right now talking about Goodell. Its clearly the offseason if we're talking this much about a guy who doesn't play football.

Also, as I've said before, the decisions are made when a majority of the owners agree or disagree to something. I believe a lot of these decisions are made behind close doors, so it is easier to put the focus on the messenger. Quote:

If consumers would treat the NFL like any other business, they would listen to its fans but they have no incentive to listen while they are still paying top dollar. Let's be honest, if the Washington Redskins were a favorite restaurant of ours, we all would have stopped eating there years ago due to the shitty service, product and atmosphere they offered. Fans need to start treating football just like the NFL does. A business. Until that time, nothing is going to change. If you don't like the direction that RG is leading the NFL, stop buying tickets, gear, and other related stuff. Probably never going to happen because even after all we've been through, season ticket holders still lined up in droves to hand over their cash to a owner who simply ran the team into the ground. (see Oakland/Jacksonville/Browns/Cowboys/Bills/etc)

Re: Around the NFL Off - Season style.
Think about this for a second, if Roger Goodell made 30 million last year, what do you think the owners made?....lol I can assure you it was much greater than 30 million. The owners love RG because he's doing exactly what they want him to. Make the NFL a huge cash cow that will deliver them hand over fist in money. With over 9 billion in revenue a year, he's doing exactly that.
If you want to bitch about the taking the "safety" concern too far, it's being done so due to monetary reasons as well. If they don't start penalizing and fining players, they'll be held liable in future lawsuits showing they knew about the consequences of concussions but did nothing to stop them. It's not about "player safety", if they really cared about safety, they would have never tried bringing in a 18 game season.

Interesting, I thought the fines went towards a charity of the player/coaches choice. (Which also made me want to ask, what if Ray Lewis got fined, could he have his fine money go towards his own charity?) I'll also say that as much as I despise/hate Goodell, he isn't the worst commissioner. That honor goes to David Stern. And all I need is one example to show why: Spurs Fined $250,000: David Stern Says Team Did 'Disservice To The League And Our Fans'

Not sure why you pointed out this instance because he was actually right for doing this. It's very very rare when Mark Cuban agrees with David Stern, but even he agreed with it. Simply said that the TV deals are their cash cows and you cannot pull star players on games when their game is being televised nationally. He didn't have a problem with them resting, just not on a night when it was televised. Mark Cuban agrees with David Stern's fine - SBNation.com Quote:

If you have a problem with the Spurs, then you cannot have a problem with the Salary Cap penalties that the Redskins took. The spurs did nothing against the rules (just like some would say the Skins or the Cowboys did nothing wrong), the "NBA" just did not like it. Goodell fined those times because it was not fair to the other teams in the NFL, hence being in the best interest for the NFL. If you have a problem with one, you cannot have a problem with the other. Just like when Stern denied a trade with the hornets and lakers, the trade was accepted by both teams but the trade was declined because it was not in the best interest of the NBA. Stern is the worst commissioner, but Goodell is catching up. I like commissioners that do not make that much noise. You do not need to put your fingerprints on something that is already increasing in value every single year. With or without Goodell, the NFL would flourish. This is why I do not care much for Goodell. However, their main job is to make sure the games continue playing, and both of these men have failed at some point with that (both had lockouts). But Stern is the worst of the two, from fixed drafts to some extremely questionable refereeing in the NBA that seem to always benefit the bigger markets. But this is an NBA topic, not an NFL one. |

As I explained in the last post, there are trillions of places that extra money COULD go. That doesnt mean that if its stripped from Goodell, thats where it WILL go. Stripping Goodell of money means none of that. You are tying the two together for some reason. Well, if you are tying Goodells salary to those causes, then the underfunding is a direct result of Goodells salary. I have no other way of reading that. If you honestly dont believe Goodells salary and those causes go hand in hand, then stop tying them together. |

Re: Around the NFL Off - Season style.
I'm having a hard time understanding how everything RG does wrong or lets say is not popular is the owners fault because they run the league yet RG gets credit for increased revenue between 2006 when Taglibue was commish and 2012....6 years later with RG as commish. Wasn't that expected no matter who the commish was? Did anyone in 2006 expect the most popular sport in America with an extremely strong following expect the league to make less money 6 years later? Given the product you'd have to be pretty inept for that to happen. As NC Skins just stated...people keep coming back basically no matter what. I mean shit...given that clientele any company could increase profits.
