Burgundy Army: Evaluating Preseason Performance

Fans read into every play of the preseason, hoping to catch a glimpse of their team’s potential that season. But every year we watch several teams go 0-4 or 1-3 in the preseason, only to turn around and make the playoffs in the regular season. And for every one of those teams, there is a team that goes 4-0 or 3-1 in the August warmups, only to tank in the regular season. So if win-loss record doesn’t help us evaluate anything, what signs of progress can we look for to properly evaluate the team in the preseason? The following guidelines may help shine light on the key areas of interest.
