Even if they weren't happy with the D-linemen at #6, why not trade down just a few spots and pick up more selections in the second or third? Winding up with the #31 spot in the first round smashes any notion of trading down.

You are right that is why we need a 2nd or 4th[I don't believe they have a 3rd in 07] thrown in as well from the Bears.
