An injured player is of no use to his team regardless of the value of his contract, so I would be hesitant to sign players with worrisome injury histories.

Perhaps we could find a rookie who could start at SS but there is little chance that we're going to get a starting FS out of the draft this year. I have no problem with giving the right FA a lucrative contract to anchor our secondary as our starting FS because we currently have NOBODY at FS and filling that position can't wait.
