defensive strategy for denver?
I have pondered the thought of how to counter the denver running game on occasion, for every offensive scheme there is a defensive counter scheme, and my thought has been to attack their smaller linemen with smaller defensive linemen. If we go with a 3-4 and put our fastest lineman up front while keeping our LB's in striking distance, the reason I say this is the denver blocking scheme is almost the offensive version of the old Tom Landry flex defense where the linemen float along the line of scrimmage until the play reveals itself then they attack, keeping our LB's off the line of scrimmage may force their O-line to remain cohesive along the line on our 3 linemen, allowing our LB's to fill the gap wherever it opens, I believe this approach would really give Denver a difficult task in trying to block everyone.
The reason I believe this will work is they had an interesting breakdown last night on the NFL network, and why Denver is so successful, and they showed the colts who usually stymie the Denver running game, and their reasoning was that the Colt defense is to fast and beats the Denver linemen to the gap's, I say a heavy Linebacker D could very well have them scratching their heads, as well it would greatly enhance our ability to contain Plummer and keep him from rolling out if he knows we will have one of our very fast LB's waiting for him. Food for thought. |
