Re: Carrier Out for Season - TE discussion
With this year's strategy of going from FB to TE running plays (no I, strong ro weak sets), not adding a blocking TE when Paulsen and Paul went down was Scot's biggest and perhaps only personnel mistake IMO. I guess he thought Carrier was that guy but he proved to be a poor blocker.
When Carrier went down a few weeks ago, like schneed said, going jumbo with Compton just told the D what you were doing. i never appreciated how important it is to have decent dual TEs like paulsen and paul. They need to be able to negate a LB 1 on 1, help double team, know how to chip, etc. all while being at least an okay pass catcher so you can still keep defenses off balance and they just can D up on the run when the TE is in there. DY played 13 snaps yesterday, the most he has played all year by far im guessing. But im also guessing that was bc they game planned for carrier to be in there and no other option but to play DY. This run game has been abysmal and one key reason is the coaching staff not adjusting. Stop running a scheme reliant on capable blocking TEs when we have no capable blocking TEs. I really want someone to grill gruden and mcvay about this and not the typical soft ball questions. |
