When Gibbs is gone
I don't want him to go in any way but I was bored and started to look foward beyond next season and the thought occured to me:
Joe Gibbs is a winner. Everything he does seems to work out well. But one thing he had his hands on didn't turn out so well: his leaving the first time. Now it is pretty much accepted that he had to leave for most of the same reasons that hard core coaches tend leave for. Over-worked, exhausted, health problems, more family time, etc.... All accpetable reasons for leaving. Especially after the success he had seen. But when he left the organization was stunned and left reeling. The team went into disarray and within two years every one of his assitants was gone. It was a disaster that has haunted the team since. It seems to me that this time he is not only gearing up to get one more Lombardi but he is also gearing up to be gone again. A winner like him can't possibly feel right about how everything worked out the first time so this time he is doing everything he can to not only get quality people here now but to do everything to keep them for when he is gone. It occurs to me that we have FOUR head coaches on this team. Gibbs, Williams, Saunders and Bugel have all been head coaches in this league and I have to wonder if that has ever happened before? Anyways to end this ramble with something to discuss. I would like to honestly thank our stand up coach not just for his integrity and ability to put together winning footballs teams with character but also for doing a better job of looking out for the future this time. It is the only thing that can be looked upon with any semblance of negativity from his first tenure and it looks to me like he is making right on that. We truely do have a one of kind coach and I for one am grateful for the day the Ol' Ball Coach high-tailed it back to where he came from. |
