Well that's because in the NFL you have 53 players in your roster no other pro sport has as many players and also is because the NFL is the only sport with a true CAP. So that prevent the huge contract (kind of because you have M.Vick with a 100 mill contract).

In soccer you have at least 18 players per team, basketball 15, hockey 18, baseball 25, Formula 1 you have 2 per team (this are all estimates I may be wrong by a few), I magine a roster in the NFL with no cap if the Yankees have 230 mill on their players a nfl team would pay 400.

The only thing that's wrong in the NFL is that no contract is warrantied but being in a cap you have to have that in orther to be under the CAP each year imagine all the bust still being payed their complete contracts, Deoin, Bruce Smith, etc..
