Draft News (4/25) - 20 NFL guys rank RBs, steelers want to trade up, Texans cheap
NFL | 20 NFL personnel men rank draft-eligible running backs
Mon, 24 Apr 2006 18:30:48 -0700 The Detroit Free Press reports 20 NFL personnel men ranked the running backs on a 1-to-5 basis for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. They used a system where a first-place vote was worth five points, a second-place vote worth four points and so on. USC RB Reggie Bush came in first with 100 points. Memphis RB DeAngelo Williams finished in second with 61 points followed by LSU RB Joseph Addai in third with 38 points. In fourth place with 36 points was USC RB LenDale White and UCLA RB Maurice Drew placed fifth with four points. Steelers | Team expected to try to trade up in first-round Mon, 24 Apr 2006 22:09:41 -0700 Jim Wexell, of the Tribune-Democrat, reports the Pittsburgh Steelers have 10 draft picks for the NFL Draft, but do not have 10 openings. As a result, the team is expected to attempt to trade up in the first round of the draft. The team's director of football operations, Kevin Colbert, said, "We'll be open to use some of those extra picks for the possibility of moving, sure." Redskins | Team not likely to trade up Tue, 25 Apr 2006 07:16:54 -0700 Howard Bryant, of the Washington Post, reports Washington Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs said Monday, April 24, that it was unlikely that the Redskins would attempt to move up from their spot in the second round of the NFL Draft. "Obviously, when you're at 53, you need to calculate who will be there," Gibbs said. "I think you could always move up, and when you get through with your final calculations you have to decide if it's smart. We've had some people talk to us about it, but it is not very likely we'll be able to do something." Texans | Team still talking with M. Williams Mon, 24 Apr 2006 16:44:21 -0700 ESPN.com's John Clayton reports the Houston Texans touched base with the agent for North Carolina State DE Mario Williams Monday, April 24, but nothing got done. There is a good chance nothing will get done before this weekend's NFL Draft. The Texans are offering Williams less than what the San Francisco 49ers paid QB Alex D. Smith last season. Williams will probably hold out to get more than Smith, so the Texans may have to choose between Williams and USC RB Reggie Bush without either having agreed to a contract. |
