The Bridge
- The Bridge
I watched 20/20 tonight (friday) and they had a story tonight about a film maker taping the golden gate bridge for the entire 2004 year. He was making a documentary on the bridge and more specifically the jumpers. I believe the average of suicides per year from the Bridge is 24. Also a fence to curb jumpers is apparently a hot topic to lawmakers. Those opposed to a fence think that it would make the bridge look bad. I thought this story was pretty compelling and interesting. The filmmakers actually captured 23 of the 24 known suicides in 2004 on tape. If they saw someone suspiciously thinking about jumping they would alert the cops, but regardless this is a pretty insane thing to do. The filmmaker, Eric Steel thinks that it will help people understand mental illness and suicide more than before. I just wanted to make you all aware of this strange documentary and ask any of those out in San Francisco area what you guys think. Heres a link to a news article from San Francisco Chronicle: Film captures suicides on Golden Gate Bridge / Angry officials say moviemaker misled them |
