Re: Take 70Chip's Mark Brunell Rorshock Test
I previously thought that the best thing to do with Campbell was to wait until the Skins had 7 losses and then start him. They would be completely out of playoff contention so why not at that point.
However, after watching Brunell yesterday, it's an insult (or indict to Campbell not to start him know. How can Campbell not give us a better chance to win than Brunell? The facts on Brunell are plain and simple--he is not that mobile anymore and he is limited in the type of throws he can make. He limits his mistakes mostly by taking high percentage dumpoffs (either due to lack of his own confidence, in ability or scheme, or lack of confidence by his OC). Finally, he plays to avoid contact. This is the most troubling because even older QBs like Favre, Johnson, and Bledsoe stand in the pocket and deliver the ball while getting drilled. If Campbell cannot at least do what Brunell offers--then we should all be very worried about Campbell. What Gibbs is then saying is they made a mistake in trading up to draft him. If Campbell is not ready now, with the current QB play, then I can only conclude that he is a bust (if I trust the coaches). |
