Anyhow, 2007 aside, let's assume for a minute that it actually matters who is on the roster, here is my wish list for each position in 2008

QB: Keep Campbell as the starter. He's on the verge of greatness. Say thank you to Brunell and Collins and send them on their way. Draft a QB later (6th, 7th round), and pick up some veteran free agent to be a #2. For a minimum salary

RB: It's fine, leave it alone

TE: It's fine, leave it alone

WR: Love Randle El, but I bump him back down to #3 receiver. I'm really liking what I'm seeing from Caldwell when he's out there and I think he should be at least the #2 WR on the team. If not for the public relations nightmare that it would be, I'd say put Moss on the market and see what you can get for him. But that would be a pr disaster so he stays. I like KM as the #4 for a veterans minimum. Might be time to say thanks and see ya to James Thrash

OL: Major changes needed here. Firt off, I have no problem with the opening day lineup we had this year (Samuels, Kendall, Rabach, Thomas, Jansen). But we need some young depth, besides Heyer. I use our 2nd and 3rd round picks on an OT and a G (Eric Young maybe?)

K: Bring in competition for Suisham. But I like him

P: Not happy with Frost lately, his line drive punts are killing us. I want a change there

LB: Rocky and Fletch were great this year, and Rocky at least seems to have a long, bright future with us. A little worried about Washington's injuries. I like the depth Blades gives us. But Khary Campbell is a special teamer at best, and Godfrey-while effective-isn't the long term answer here. We need OLB help. Of course Briggs is the popular choice, but I'd like to see us make a run at Karlos Dansby

DE: Two words: Justin Smith. 'Nuff said

CB: Based on the available talent at the free agent and college level, I think we should draft a CB in the first round. Depending on where we draft, either Aqib Talib or Antoine Cason.

S: Laron Landry is a lock to start. Starting next to him I'm still kind of big on moving Springs there. This is all dependent on a.)if we keep him, which I hope we do, and b.)if Rogers is healthy to start the season. If Rogers isn't then I'm not keen on moving Springs out of a CB spot

So, to summarize:

Well, those are the moves I'd lean toward making. How about you?

Not kidding you, I drafted Eric Young today in my Madden Franchise. He's playing LG as a rookie since I never acquired Kendall in that franchise.

We need to acquire another TE to play with Cooley. I've been adamant that it be a blocking TE, but as long as we keep respect to pass blocking ability, any guy who we can use in a versatile role, and we feel could start for us next year would do. We could spend a mid round draft pick on such a player, get the scouting department on it.

This would also take the pressure off the necessity for another stud receiver. It would allow Moss to remain in the No. 1 role for one more season, and allow Cooley to work out of the slot in every passing situation, effectively becoming the no. 1 receiver.

Send Lloyd away for a glass of 2% lactose free milk, release Springs and Daniels, attempt to resign both to league minimum contracts but nothing more. If they sign elsewhere, act to replace them with vets (Dayleon McCutchon, or Brian Kelly at corner). Be aggressive in the free agent market to find a cover safety.

Use the early draft picks on the offensive and defensive lines. If the right value at DT comes our way, an impact player, jump on it. We will have to add more youth at the DT position sometime, and while the emergence of Montgomery has made it not as immediate as before, it's still a need.

Otherwise, use the first round pick on a pass rushing DE or a stud left tackle prospect who has the versatility to begin his career at guard. Draft a cornerback in the 2nd or 3rd round, and draft a guard with the other, depending on where the value falls.

With the late round picks, make sure to pick up a running back who the coaching staff likes and will respect. I would spend a pick on Chad Henne if he's sitting there on the second day. There are a lot of flaws in his game and his senior season was a injury riddled regression, but he's got a lot of college experience against elite competition and you can't teach that.

Sign Tim Rattay or a QB of equal value. Don't resign Collins, and Brunell's contract automatically terminates. If we take a lineman in the first round who can start at LG as a rookie, cut Kendall and take advantage of the fact that he has no cap hit. Resign Fabini and Pucillo.
