But, like I said, the other side is the efficiency question. I think life sentences are just stupid. If someone's never going to get out of jail, we need to ask the question: will this person produce something, *ANYTHING* over the course of his tenure in prison, that will even come close to matching the cost of his inprisonment? If not, and if that person's appeals have been exhausted, I think you have to consider the idea of just speeding up nature's due process and saving the state a lot of resources...
