Should conventional wisdom be put aside when putting in new offense?
conventional wisdom has everybody afraid to play starters in preseason because of injuries,I dont like this way of thinking,I think an injury can happen at any time so it doesnt matter, someone can go down in the first game Like Brady,so wtf does it matter.I would like a coach to put conventional wisdom aside and play the starters more ,especially the qb when installing a new offense.Campbell is learning a new offense again, and everyone says its going to take time, well why not give him more time in preseason to pick it up? You give him a few series in the first games then 3 qtrs in one game, how is that getting your qb ready for the season? Halfway through the year he starts to feel comfortable in the sytem{maybe} and by then the team probably sucks anyway.Does anyone else agree or am i alone in this thinking,I'd like to see a poll. Its like what I read Favre say,he's not afraid to play in preseason because injuries can happen anytime, and he said look at Usi from the giants,he wasnt even touched when is knee gave out.
On another note, when did the 3rd preseason game start being the one to play the starters and why? I've been watching football a long time and it seems like up to a few yrs ago{like within the last ten yrs} the last preseason game was when the starters played, and they usually played the whole game, did one team start this trend and the other ones followed or all the teams got together and decided this is how were going to do it from now on? I'd like to see another trend started and have teams do it my way
