Patrick Ramsey
First of all, I said a few times that I think that Patrick Ramsey gets nervous out there and that that accounts for some of his mistakes. On further reflection, it’s not fair of me to make that criticism and it was unkind of me to call him “Nervous Pat” as I did, and I apologize to Patrick if he happens by any chance to read this site.
Patrick has as everyone knows shown great courage standing in there against pressure despite taking a severe beating under the pass protection schemes of the Spurrier era. When you are learning a new system, you may miss some open receivers sometimes because the system isn’t instinctively a part of your thinking yet and you don’t therefore see the whole field. That is only natural. Ramsey is developing well especially considering his overall experience as a quarterback, and the fact that he has had to start over this year with an entirely new scheme. I do believe that there should be an open competition in training camp next year rather than anointing Patrick the quarterback, and I think that such a challenge might well inspire everyone involved to higher levels of play. However, I trust the coaching staff to make the best decision in that regard. |
