In a related story, officials were consterned to learn about the scratch marks found inside the refrigerated storage drawers at the morgue. "I was wondering what all the scratches were," morgue manager Steve Johnson said. Now many are wondering how many other people were declared dead by local medics and sent to the morgue, only to die in a refrigerated drawer.
Local medic Al Landry suggests there have been a lot: "A whole lot - a lot of us have been cutting corners on our check procedures," he conceded. "First you check if the eyes are closed, then you see if they are motionless. Third you check if they are breathing. Sometimes we sort of skim the third check."
