Tommy Morrison comeback fight in jeopardy over blood test
Boxing - Morrison says no to testing
Dont know if anyone has been keeping up with the career of former WBO Champion Tommy "Duke" Morrison, but this may be the death blow to his "comeback" that he has been attempting since 2007. For those that dont know, Morrison was banned from boxing in 1996 after testing positive for HIV. In 2006, Morrison began declaring that he was the victim of a "false-positive" test in 1996, and that he was HIV free. In 2007, Morrison was licensed to fight in West Virginia, after undergoing a battery of tests. Here is how is comeback has went since 2007: Feb 2007: Morrison defeats John Castle by KO Rd 2, in West Virginia. Feb. 2008: Morrison defeats Matt Weishaar by TKO in Rd3 in Leon, Mexico Jan 2009: Morrison defeats Cory Williams by KO in Rd 1 in Wyoming. (An alleged fake fight) I am a huge fan of Tommy, but something is up with him. He has had exactly 3 fights in 3 years, each in a place where there is no athletic commission. His former attorney, Randy Lang says that he was backing Tommy by helping him get fights on the grounds of "HIV discrimination", since there was little risk of him infecting another fighter. Randy split from Tommy in 2007 after Tommy began saying he was HIV free, which Lang says is untrue. Bottom line is, if Morrison is really HIV free, then god bless him, but why wont he just take the friggin test to prove it, so he can get his license and resume his career? Why is Morrison refusing to be tested if he has nothing to hide??
