Polian basically said you need 3-4 mil for the draftees which you know exactly how much based on research of where your draft picks are based on the new rookie wage scale. They would then estimate one to two trades up just to have some wiggle room. They would then evaluate the roster for people they think could be reasonably likely to end up on IR and budget for that. Between that and 8 practice squad guys you are looking at 4-5 mil which put him at his figure of 8.5-9 mil in space.

Teams with high first round picks need to keep $4-5.5 million on hand. Our rookie class almost drops our salary figure.
