Re: Falcons Cut Price - Are we interested?
While Peerless could be just fine in the role that many of us have envisioned Taylor Jacobs playing, I think I'd stick with what we have.
What confuses me is how we complain every year about fiscal irresponsibility and lack of stability and team chemistry. And yet here we are with the regular season just 10 days away and again we're talking about spending money to bring someone in at the last minute. Let's just let the players who have been with us all preseason grow.

I chalk it up to that 'Madden' mentality that was our MO for the first few years under Snyder. Let's leave well enough alone. No need to jump on every free agent that hits the wire. Those days are over, thankfully. |

Exactly how is adding one talented player going hurt team chemistry? A veteran NFL player like Price can come and play the next day. This is football not rocket science |

Re: Falcons Cut Price - Are we interested?
What I'm saying is inevitably when a big name player is released we shouldn't be so quick to jump all over that player. The Falcons are a talented playoff team, yet if you were to point out an area where they are weak it's probably at wide receiver. Yet Price was apparently not good enough for Atlanta to keep him.
And no, it's not rocket science, but Ramsey (and Brunell) has been working all offseason with new receivers Patten, Moss, and to a lesser extent Brown. There's no need, in my humble opinion, to bring someone else on board now. Confucius say "Piling up on talented players does not a winning team always make"

Out of 106 passes where Price was the target in 2004, he caught 45 passes and dropped 5 balls deemed "catchable". My understanding is that's a ball he got his hands on in front of his body. There are still 56 balls where either the pass was off target, or he wasn't in the right place. In 2003, he had 141 passes thrown to him, and he caught 64. He had 8 "official" drops, meaning 69 balls were not catchable for one reason or another. The percentage of drops to passes in area is 5.26%. However, the drops to catches ratio is 11.9%. Compare that to another recent "#2 switching to #1" in Mushin Muhammad. His first season as a lead receiver (last year) had a 6.7% ratio, and his two-year average is 7.5%. As for Vick vs. Schaub - there is a point there. Price averaged 4.25 receptions per game with Schaub, versus 2.86 with Vick. Neither one of those numbers in Canton-material, but there is a drop-off. However, as a member of the Atlanta Falcons football organization, you have to be poigniantly aware that Mike Vick is the face of your franchise, and its most important member. Backhanded requests to start his less-than-capable backup will be looked upon with disfavor.

Alanta did not release Price because he in not a good receiver. They released him because they over paid him and they did not find Price worth the large amount of money due him. Signing Peerless Price at a much lower price would not be a bad pick up for him to be a #2 or #3 WR.. |

Re: Falcons Cut Price - Are we interested?
Didn't want the guy when he was a free agent, don't want him now. I think he will winde up either back in buffalo, or in dallas, I think if we are to bring in another reciever Warrick should be the guy, I just felt coming out of college he was going to be a flat out star, obviously that didn't pan out, but in the right situation he might finally blossom, defiently worth a look see if he's willing.

Re: Falcons Cut Price - Are we interested?
Price has had just one year with #1 receiver numbers--2002. Every other year of his career is comparable to Rod Gardner's numbers. Why would we WANT to sign him. I'm happy with what I've seen from Patten, Thrash, Brown and Jacobs. Any of them would make a fine #2 to Moss and we won't be in any more salary cap purgatory. Let our guys play. Worry about another receiver in the offseason.
