I understand like Matty said, in the initial hour or two after an incident conflicting reports may occur. But at some point the media ought to be held accountable for unverified and misleading reports. Somehow allowing for 1st amendment rights at the same time.

Ironically, the demand for information by the public may lead to the competition among the media outlets to get the information as quick as possible, leading to mistakes.

Mistakes are going to happen. It's inevitable. NBC News had it right all along, but that's not to say their sources were necessarily any more credible than CNN's
