Re: Draft talk rounds 2-3

Speaking of draft talk...this morning I listened to Tiki Barber interviewing Vinny Cerrato about the draft on the radio. Both of these guys have their own shows on CBS Sports Radio. Worse yet, Vinny was critiquing QBs.

It's so bad you can't leave.

Re: Draft talk rounds 2-3

For all you Honey Badger Lovers:

Tyrann Mathieu, DB, LSU:
49ers (PRI)
Bengals (PRI)
Bills (PRI)
Browns (PRI)
Buccaneers% (PRI) (COM)
Cardinals (PRI)
Dolphins (PRI)
Falcons (PRI)
Patriots (PRI)
Raiders (PRI)
Redskins (COM)
Seahawks (PRI)
Texans (PRI)

Vikings (PRI)

PRI means Private workout. COM means met at the Combine. % means that a team has met with Mathieu more than once. Now keep this in mind:

The Bucs just got Revis, so I don't think they'll agressively pursue Mathieu today.
The Texans and Seahawks got their meetings blown off by Mathieu, per Jay Glazer. So I'd cross them off to. The Raiders just drafted DJ Hayden, so I don't think they'll go for Mathieu in round 2.

The Cardinals and 49ers beat reporters both said today that Tyrann is on their teams radars and that both teams are high on him. The Vikings just drafted Xavier Rhodes, but he's no NB like Tyrann. Leslie Frazier just dealt with a headcase like Harvin and got rid of him, but the flip side is he just lost Winfield and needs to replace a playmaker with a playmaker. Good news is the vikings don't pick before us (yet, atleast). The Cardinals pick before us, but there will be a QB run, and I'm sure they'll jump to get one now instead of picking Tyrann at 38.

The Falcons, they just got Trufant for a lot of picks, and they need a TE. I see them getting Escobar, Ertz or Kelce in round 2.

49ers-could definitely happen at the end of round 2, especially since they have so many picks.
Bengals-I don't expect it till their 2nd 2nd round pick, which means we're golden for our 2nd round pick to get him.
Bills (PRI)- they need a lot of stuff, they're a threat to take him before us at 46.
Browns (PRI)- They don't have a 2nd round pick, but the 3rd rounder is where they may get him.
Buccaneers% (PRI) (COM)- Again, I don't see it since they have Revis now and they have so many other needs.
Cardinals (PRI)- Definitely could happen with their 3rd rounder, but with the QB run I expect in the 2nd, I expect them to take one.
Dolphins (PRI)- they pick after us, the pick could end up being traded for brandon albert, but again they could pick Tyrann in the 3rd.
Falcons (PRI)- don't see it happening with the addition of trufant. They're more of a 3rd round possibility.
Patriots (PRI)- could definitely see this happening in the 2nd, but they supposedly really like the WRs, specifically Woods.
Raiders (PRI)- unlikely now that Hayden was picked, but with this looney franchise, you never know. I say 3rd round at best if they did get him.
Redskins (COM)- he'll be there for us; do we take him or see how serious other teams were about getting him in the 3rd round or late 2nd.
Seahawks (PRI)- Not happening now that he blew them off, and that they already have a loaded secondary.
Texans (PRI)- He blew them off as well; unlikely to happen.
Vikings (PRI)- They don't pick until round 4, by then, he'll be gone.

Re: Draft talk rounds 2-3

I am now hoping for the first three picks to go like this...

Round2 DJ Swearinger
Round3 Tyrann Mathieu
Round4 Da'Rick Rogers

I know there alot of head cases here, but I believe in our coaches and the attitude at Redskins Park right now.

Re: Draft talk rounds 2-3

Shanahan just said last week that they won't take risks on character concerns. I think Honey Badger brings way too much baggage. All it takes is one bad apple to ruin a good thing.

^ This is the same guy who took Maurice Clarrett. I don't put too much stock in Shanahan pressers.

Yeah but his track record so far with the Skins says he puts a premium on character guys. Sure you gamble and lose sometimes, but for the most part he's been true to his word.

Shanahan will go for the risky guys, Trent and Fred with weed, merriweathers with his DUI. He still has and "hopes" that tanard Jackson will play this year even thought he has drug problems up the wahzoo. DHall isn't exactly the best character guy with his on the field in incidents with coaches and refs as well as players. Shanahan kept briscoe on the roster even though he was cut by Tampa bay because he was a headcase there. Hell, he stuck with josh Morgan after he lost us the game.

So to say he doesn't want character guys is pure bull.

Nobody is saying he doesn't take chances sometimes. All coaches do, just depends on their risk tolerance, some are higher than others. I'd put Shanahan somewhere in the middle. For every "risky" guy he also loves guys like Kerrigan, RGIII, Morris, Fletcher, Helu, Cousins, etc.

As he said you do your homework and make a decision based on what you know. I doubt he's against taking certain guys off his draft board though.

I think giving another chance to players is more descriptive; but this all relative to also making the team better. The areas of most need are the areas that you would take more risks in. And actually the examples of risk that you listed - were not examples of draft risks taken by Shanahan.

One thing I've learned about Shanahan is he doesn't tell the truth. And he shouldn't tell the media/fans what he's going to do. Not only did he take Clarret, he's taken Tanard Jackson and Larry Johnson. I don't think we should take risks with the early picks, but I also think that MS is smart enough to know that an NFL locker room isn't filled with a bunch of Charles Mann's.

Re: Draft talk rounds 2-3

Anyone want to take odds on a Jarvis Jenkins/Josh LeRebious type guy we've never heard of or seen linked to the team being picked tonight with our first selection?

Considering our history of taking off the radar types in the 2nd round on, chances are good we could see a repeat.

7.5 his rookie year, 41 tackles, 4FF's, 1 Int & 9 last year, 54 tackles, 2ff's & 1 Int.

Marginally better season w/out RAK.

Marginally better is more favorable than "isn't all that effective" though, right?

No. Can we upgrade him if a player like Moore fell or if Orakpo leaves, yes. But all in all OLB isn't of main concern.
You're kinda on both sides of it but ok. He could have been better. He's never going to be Clay Matthews or JJ Watt but he may see double digits with some sacks of the QB trying to get away from Rak.
