Steve Carrell was the glue that held the show together. In hindsight I think they should have made Dwight the boss after he left. The last two seasons might have been better. Overall I thought the two seasons without Carrell was very hit or miss. Some episodes were great, some were crap. I don't think the writers gave up or mailed it in, it was just very tough to move on without Michael Scott.
