Cooley is a godsend, but we can't be one-dimensional in the redzone. Gibbs has done particulary well with possession type receivers in the past, and not just for the redzone. it's the only thing in this offense that's conspicously missing.
the thing is, when we had DMac, he was the only threat and he was okay, not great... last year we had cooley and gardner, and gardner wasn't getting it done, even though he had almost as many TDs.

I think height is nice, but you can either play or you can't, and our tall guys haven't been able to play, so lets see how the short guys do before spending another 40 posts on this.

They'll prove it to us, one way or the other... there's not much we can do about it now.

Re: Eagles ink McCants?

how often did we even get near in redzone last year? Patten, Moss, Portis and the new line seem they can actually get us there this season. we've always had trouble punching it; there's no denying a physical, clutch (not "50-50") target in the slot or the edge would really open up the defense for Cooley and Portis. it could help Ramsey throw less risky passes in there as well.

it seemed all we had last year was possession receivers, and we never took it downfield. only reason i'm saying all this is because i'm excited about our totally new offense, i think we'll get a lot more scoring opportunities this year. still, having a collection of speedsters and not having an Art Monk type on the roster could be a concern; it's already been written about. we may have the talent to compensate, who knows, but in football thats an established role that we don't have filled.
