Looks good to me all around. Looking for Jenkins to come out swinging after his suspension. Dude needs to prove his draft position, contract, etc. etc. In the meantime we have some pretty interesting options at LDE and NT moving guys around.

On other news...may this be the season Rak achieves elite status

That mask isn't as bad as I feared, luckily.

Last line of the Griffin article:

Quote:
“I don’t really worry about my leg anymore,” he said. “Consistently I forget my brace. Like I did on the first day and everybody made a big deal about that. I feel great.”
in a related note: yesterday morning on SiriusXM, the announcers were hyping the upcoming guest (an orthopedic doctor who has done work with the Rams), and was teasing it by saying that the doctor disagrees with how the Redskins were handling Griffin's return. But once he got on, he basically deferred to the attending physicians, but what I thought was interesting was that his timeline really was about where Griffin seems to be at. He said that his patients would begin cutting and heavy work at the 6 month mark, which would have been June, and at 9 months would basically be good to go, but that it would take another several months for the player to have confidence in his leg. Well, Griffin just has that confidence already, and if he doesn't take a snap in preseason, basically will have gone 8 1/2 to 9 months from surgery to game action. The whole interview just made me feel better about how the Skins and Griffin are approaching this.

I would guess having gone through this before must give him an advantage especially mentally.

How many times can a knee take an ACL injury before it becomes too many? I'm not trying to inject doom into this thread; I really want to know.

No idea.

Sometimes all it takes is one.

There's no magic number.

Outcomes of repeat revision anterior cruciat... [Am J Sports Med. 2013] - PubMed - NCBI

Repeat revision ACL reconstruction may improve the functional outcomes of patients who have failed revision ACL reconstruction. Most patients do not return to prior activity level following repeat revision. Presence of grade 3 or 4 chondral lesions and body mass index greater than 28 were associated with worse outcomes.

i read another article as well, citing to this same study .. apparently there are not enough patients with multiple ACL revision surgeries to get a study group bigger than the 15 in the above-cited study . . . out of the 15 patients, 27% returned to full functioning (which, to my math comes out to 4.05 patients out of the 15 .. not sure how we end up without a round number)

also, it appears the synthetic material/band is pretty much used for all ACLs now so i assume RG3 had an "allograft" material to act as his ligament so there is no worry about him running out of ligament material but ...... he may run out of surface/bone area of his knee to make any more holes to anchor with. i imagine these holes are micro but still .. he has at least 4 surgical holes in his knee now (im speculating, they might not need to re-anchor? idk).

edit - never mind. it is speculated that RG3 did not use the synthetic band/ligament for his first ACL surgery but they cut out a portion of his patellar tendon.

A Complete Guide to Robert Griffin III's Knee Injury | Bleacher Report

^^ good breakdown

Checking in on Robert Griffin III as He Continues to Recover from Knee Surgery | Bleacher Report

^^ follow up article.

^^ 4 min video animation of an acl repair. very good. very scary.

ps - i thought for sure that synthetic ligament material was all the rage now but apparently using a piece of the patients own ligament graft is the way to go . .

He's had no OTA reps, no pre season games and they're not even letting him do 11 on 11. What's he doing to get himself ready to play 16 games? 7 on 7 and little throwing drills on the side? To me that's going overboard on the side of caution. I expect him to be rusty the first few weeks. We're still talking about a very young player, not an established vet. They should at least let the kid do 11 on 11, which is the closest thing to a game simulation.

Can't blame them for being cautious. He's still barely 6 months post surgery.

I think cautions is not letting him play pre season. Otherwise he should be doing everything else.

I am sure he will do 11 on 11's pretty soon. I still wouldn't be surprised to hear he was going to do one series in the final preseason, just to shake it all out.

El-Bashir pretty much nails the Offensive roster imo.

Yeah, his is much better than Tandler's. I don't like that he left Thompson off in favor of Jamison, though. I think Jamison goes to the practice squad, while Thompson unseats Royster. I was also disappointed that Tandler left Briscoe off in favor of Henderson.

Is there any news on Marvin Burdette?
