Re: Redskins Cuts
@MarkMaske 1m
The Redskins' restructurings of the deals of Barry Cofield, Stephen Bowen and Adam Carriker totaled about $3.7 million in cap savings.

Re: Redskins Cuts
Need to Know: Redskins’ restructure money already spent | Rich Tandler's Real Redskins
The Redskins restructured the contracts of Stephen Bowen, Adam Carriker, and Barry Cofield in recent days to create some cap room. But don’t get excited about the prospects of them going after a free agent. As Bruce Allen indicated during training camp, the Redskins are restructuring deals just to be able to stay under the salary cap. During the offseason only the top 51 contracts count towards the cap. Once the season starts, the contracts of all 53 active players plus players on PUP and injured reserve and the practice squad count towards. The Redskins had some trimming to do to get in compliance with the cap and to give themselves some cushion during the season. In short, the savings from the restructures are already spent. |

Re: Redskins Cuts
And finally you always want to give your team an in-season cushion to be able to make moves during the season

Re: Redskins Cuts
I always assumed that BA had some restructures and/or extensions in his back pocket, but why use them early then need new plans.

Re: Redskins Cuts
I guess the other possibility is an Orakpo extension

Re: Redskins Cuts
I really wouldn't have been shocked to see either a TW or Orakpo extension instead of the Bowen/Cofield/Carriker move. But Bowen and Carriker both seem like solid moves to me. Whatever gets us through the season...

Re: Redskins Cuts
Yup. And that is the smart way to go. Wait until we have a week one roster (and hence a firm salary cap number) and then do the restructures necessary to make it all work.

Re: Redskins Cuts
byrd wants a crazy big new deal too. we don't have the money and while he's a great player, if we did have the money, safety isn't where i'd be spending it with rak needing a new deal and right tackle still weak.
