But in the end we won the only category that matters, and that's the W-L column.

I think looking at the numbers does indeed mean something. Last year we struggled to put up points and struggled to even move the ball or get big plays. Today we moved the ball, controlled the clock and had a couple of big plays. The points weren't there, and of course that has to improve, but to just look at the score and assume the offense is garbage is a pretty ignorant view to take in my opinion.

Dallas just scored to go up 28-24. If we only score 9 points next Monday, we're gonna get crushed.

You're absolutely right, Matty! I'm laughing my butt off at some of these responses! You would have thought we lost today.

Re: Postgame thoughts

I watched the entire game and was impressed with the play calling. I didn't really think Gibbs was as conservative as last year, and we WERE continually moving the ball downfiled. Ramsey doesn't get collered and we win 16- 7. Stop being so pessimistic, we won today, we started out the season the way we wanted to. They're gonna look at game film, asses, correct and improve for little D and the Tuna. I think we're gonna give those girls a run for their money

Portis needs to run like hell next week. We've got to beat Dallas, who just upset the Chargers.

Re: Postgame thoughts

Is it possible that our offense isn't really that bad, and that Chicago, as much as we don't want to admit it, as a team isn't that bad either? Both of these teams will probably get better as the season wears on.

That being said I was disappointed with the lack of scoring today and the lack of defensive pass rush. But overall pleased with a win! Wins in the NFL are tough to come by and we just can't chalk up a win just because we think the other team just isn't as good as our home team. Ask Carolina, the Jets, and a few other teams that had horrible showings today.

I do think Brunell will get the nod next week, however. I think the only way Gibbs can truly remedy this thing hanging over this clubs' head is to trade either Ramsey or 'Scott' Brunell. hehehe

Oh, and I think we definitley got the best of the Moss/Coles deal. And Smoot and Co. didn't look so hot in Minnasota did they?

Re: Postgame thoughts

Well the Chargers struggled today as they did all last year to put up a pass rush, and that will be a key to our game next Monday, we gotta pressure Bledsoe.

I hate to say it but Dallas' D looked pretty good, Brees was under a lot of pressure.....
but you can also say the Chargers gave that game against Dallas away.......3 STUPID STUPID penalties in 3rd down situations that gave Dallas a first down each time....
we can't do the same thing.......gotta play smart

The Chargers have a pretty good defense, but I think our defense will be better at frustrating Bledsoe. We like to give a lot of looks and I think Williams is smart enough to know that pressure kills Bledsoe. You can bet that Williams will be closely studying the Chargers-Cowboys game film and will adapt his scheme to keep the Cowboys from scoring fewer than 28 points.

I could careless about moving the ball. FDs aren't going to cut it...especially when facing good teams.

Re: Postgame thoughts

The fact of the matter is we won, and that's great. The other fact is we will improve as the season progresses. I think the Cowboys D is worse than the Bears and their O is much, much better. So next week like every week after that we need to play better D, and better O. This is the first game of the season and if Gibbs is smart he will stick with Ramsey and let continuity set into place.

The bottom line is that we won an ugly game but a win is a win. If we win every game in an ugly fashion I will still be happy.

That goes without saying.

All I'm saying is there are some positives we can take away from this game. The scoreboard doesn't always tell the entire story.
