Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
Something is clear to me over the past couple years is that Mike Shanahan has lost his balls at some point. No balls to fire a unproductive defensive coordinator when it was clear when he wasn't getting the job done. No balls to fire a DB coach (slowik) when it was apparent he sucked, so he moves him over to LB coach, where they suck worse than the DBs now. No balls to tell a over the hill LB to kick rocks when he wanted some stupid contract in the off-season. No balls to tell his franchise QB he needed to sit when it was apparent he was injured.
It's also clear that Shanahan doesn't need to final decider on decisions. Not sure I have ever seen a coach be a effective GM/Coach at the same time. Mike's ego has been his downfall in Denver, and it's going to be his downfall here. It's a shame to see such a good coach, do himself in due to ego. There is a report (from WSJ I think) about how ultimate power made people stupid. It takes a special person to be able to step back and reflect on what made them get to that point to begin with. I think Mike needs to read the article because I've seen much stupidity spread throughout his teams in terms of how they play and the composure they play with. His teams have been undisciplined and it seems the players have no fear when they don't perform. Three personal fouls last night and 8 penalties overall is the theme of this team. It's time for a change. In a perfect situation, we'd strip Mike of his executive position, fire Kyle, Burns, Slowik, and Haslett, while allowing Mike to continue coaching. We all know this isn't going to happen because Mike and Kyle are a package deal, and no way is he going to take for his power being diminished. That said, time to bring in some new blood. Somebody who isn't so ego driven that he can't allow others to assist him to greatness. Somebody who's willing to make tough decisions when necessary and cut/bench players regardless of how much of a fan favorite they are.
