I really have to wonder what sparked this whole thing. Like was there an exact moment that Shanahan caught Snyder pissing in his coffee?

I think it was once he saw the ship was sinking and there was no winning streak in the works to save his ass again.

You'd think there'd be a more constructive way of dealing with getting fired than that though.

You would think so, but it's clear he's more interested in saving his reputation vs going out like a man and saying this was on me.

Snyder could end it by firing Shanahan today.

It's not that easy. Shanahan has painted Snyder to be this hands in the cookie jar type of owner. Shanny has painted himself as trying to right a ship Snyder didn't completely let him. If you read the article I posted earlier in the "Ready to leave" thread, that is the furthest from the truth. Snyder basically shoved everything but his Owner status into Mike's lap and Mike somehow managed to do everything wrong. But Snyder has a rep as a owner and Shanny has a history as a coach and Shanny has brilliantly painted himself as a poor SOB who tried against the odds due to not only Snyder but the players as well. He's made the Redskins organization look so messy and is sending a message that an up and coming coach would be an idiot to come work for Daniel Snyder.

If Snyder were to fire Shanny before the end of the season, he's done nothing but prove Mike's point. Snyder kinda has to ride this out.

**edit and I don't mean prove, by the way that Snyder IS an idiot. I kinda feel bad for the guy at this rate. I meant prove like, Snyder would be backing up Shanny's story, even though its completely false.

Re: How would you feel if Shanahan benches RGIII?

Right now, as I keep turning this over in my head, the best thing for the team's future is for Dan to sit down, shut up and simply endorse MS through the season:

"As I have in the past, I will continue to support Mike as he leads the Redskins through the 2013 season. Anything that will assist him in winning these last games, I will do what I can to give him. During these final three games, I will not disrupt his management of the team or the lockerroom he has assembled. As in any year, once the season has concluded, I will evaluate the product put on the field by those I entrust to do so and make my decisions on the team's future accordingly."

The only response after that is "It's Mike's team. I do not interfere in his decisions".

If Dan can keep a cool head throughout this, I think he can do a lot to retrieve his reputation and demonstrate that a coach will be well supported here, even in tough times. Unlike in the past, I think Shanny's machinations are pretty transparent to "the Media". Maybe that is just wishful thinking.

Who knows ... Shanahan's little sh** show may, ultimately, wind up being the best thing for the Skins in while.

I see the logic in this approach and it may be the right way. But boy would I want to drop a pipe bomb on Shanny's little plan. Hard to do though since DS doesn't have a lot of good will built up in the media.

If it's truly about the concern of your star player's health (and he's just ONE of the star players IMO) then you need to sit the rest of them. I would sit Morris now that he has gotten over his 1000 yards. I would keep Jordan Reed out, Pierre Garcon, Kerrigan, Orkapo, etc....this move with RGIII is just in spite. It just kills me that they're not getting rid of Shanahan this week.

Sitting RG now also protects Shanny from criticism if god forbid he did get hurt, his rep would really go in the tank. Either way it's a move based on his own motives, not out of concern for the team or player. Just another CYA move.

With the current Circus in town and state of the perpetual shittiness of the Franchise, I really don't care who starts... I care more about who is going to be our next HC and how many candidates actually want to be associated with this train wreck we call The Washington Redskins...

I dont think any big names will want to come here because they likely dont need the $ and they know it will end badly with their reputation in tatters. That leaves 2nd tier guys who IMO will come in for a payday, take their chances and see what happens. Maybe it will work out but more than likely it wont. In the end this organization is too screwed up for for any coach to come in and make a difference.

Unfortunately, I agree with everything you said... I don't think there is an answer at this point... At least this time of year, I always have Duke basketball to transition to, which does a good job of taking the pain away...

We are the Carlito's Way of the NFL... Just when we think we are out of the Cesspool Circus, we are pulled right back in...
