DE Dee Ford, Auburn—Let’s face facts; it will be nearly impossible for the Redskins to sign both Brian Orakpo and Ryan Kerrigan to long term deals. One or both will be gone by 2016. A defense based on an aggressive pass rush needs, well, pass rushers. Ford, who had 8.5 sacks for Auburn last year and could do better lined up at outside linebacker where he can utilize his athletic ability to elude blockers.

ILB C. J. Mosley, Alabama—He’s mocked as high as 14th to the Bears and as low as out of the first round. The Redskins could search for a long time for someone to replace London Fletcher at inside linebacker. Or perhaps Mosley, the leader of the Crimson Tide’s tough defense, could fall into their laps.

FS Calvin Pryor, Louisville—Right now he appears to be top-20 material but his physical nature could scare off some teams in search of a safety but in fear of drawing too many personal-foul flags. The Redskins, of course, have a perpetual need at safety and might be willing to risk some laundry on the field to get the problem solved.

CB Darqueze Dennard, Michigan State—It seems that Dennard is more likely to be taken closer to the top 10 than the second round but some have him going in the late 20’s so a further slide is possible. He could be good enough to shake up the depth chart in the whole secondary.

CB Kyle Fuller, Virginia Tech—Fuller has gone from being a popular pick for the Redskins at 34 to someone who could be gone somewhere in the 20’s. Is his rise a result of media hype or is he actually moving up draft boards? He also could shake up the secondary depth chart."

Any thoughts on these guys from the Peanut Gallery?
Id take any of those guys. I like Fuller alot, but Dennard to me, is much better CB. Fuller is a zone guy.

First, we don't know if this FO will try to trade down whenever possible. Shanahan ran the entire show for the last four years. I highly doubt that Bruce made the decisions to trade down. I certainly hope he didn't because most of those trades netted us nothing.

Second, if the Redskins' think that Fleming could become the starter at RT, then it would make no sense to me to trade down and risk losing him if he is there at #34. IMO, finding a RT who can better help to protect RGIII than Polombus has done should be the top priority of this draft.

I remember hearing that BA was all about trading down and getting more picks. Either way I am not a fan of it. First of all Id rather have a great/good player than two good/decent ones. Secondly its hard enough to hit on one player but now you are having to hit on two. I guess if there are two guys you are high on and you are able to trade down and still get them thats one thing. Nobody is a sure thing but I just hope if they trade down it doesnt involve sacrificing someone you would take if you could just for "more" picks.

I didn't know that. Well, I guess Dirtbag was right. My apologies, DB.

if anyone from the first round falls to us, regardless of who it is, we'd be silly not to give them carefully consideration. especially if it's an OT or defensive player.

Remind me to kick Roger Godell's ass for pushing the draft back two weeks.

Re: 34th Overall Pick

Do we know of anymore prospects visits lined up this week or next?

Kinda hope we take a good look at safety Jimmie Ward.

Re: 34th Overall Pick

From what Redskins insiders like Chris Russell are saying and putting that together with their pre-draft visits, it looks like the Redskins are targeting a pass rusher with the 34th pick.

I think they know if Orakpo has a great year he will be hard to sign. Then a year later Kerrigan will want a big contract.

Im glad we are thinking down the road, but amazes me we dont take that same strategy with the Secondary or O-Line.

Re: 34th Overall Pick

If we do draft a pass rusher at #34, it will be obvious the plan this year is to go balls out getting after the QB and trying to get by with an average at best back end. I say hell why not? Other teams have done pretty well with that approach.

You can fix everything over night, but loading up on the pass rush is an easy fix to a lot of problems.

I don't understand why so many think that if we take a pass rusher at 34, that spells the end for Orakpo, as the Giants, Panthers, and Seahawks have shown, you can never have too many pass rushers. Plus pass rusher doesnt have to be an OLB

Re: 34th Overall Pick

Generally speaking, I don't think you find many impact pass rushers at the top of the 2nd round. Personally I doubt we go in that direction there.

Re: 34th Overall Pick

I don't mind getting a pass rusher at 34, but it shouldn't be at the expense of foregoing the draft board. In order words- yeah take a pass rusher if he's best player available.

Thats how Im reading it. Skins shouldnt reach just to grab oline or secondary. If a pass rusher grades out head and shoulders over a Tackle, by all means take them. If we do grab a OLB, I think it does spell the end for Orakpo. There is alot of differing opinions in the FO on Rak and his abilities, Skins could have easily signed him if they felt he was the future.

... But the problem becomes- how do you compare players at different positions?
