It started at a choice, but developed into a habit. then maybe as an escape. Like smoking, gambling, alcohol, etc. No question he's made bad choices. Its amazing when your young the bad choices you can make. Maturity is learning from mistakes, Fred hasnt, but it sounds like he certainly has some substance abuse issues. He's young, and people love a comeback story.
But to be so harsh is kinda dumb. Hopefully, Fred has hit bottom.
