Yes, we are.

But I'm with you, I don't ever expect to see him suit up for us.

That's a truly sad state of affairs that the mere hope of what Jackson could be represents a tangible upgrade from what we have. Don't get me wrong, we need better players but I won't feel an iota more comfortable with him on the roster than I did with Merriweather, Doughty, Rambo and Gumbs. He's on their level or worse.

He was a solid player when he played, i'm sure he's been working out. He needs to get back in football shape and attend every training session, the key is when will he be reinstated.

Apparently the key is when will he show up for piss tests.

Once Jackson is officially let go, then we can completely dismiss him. Until then there's still a chance, even if it's remote. The guy is 28, could still have some good ball left in him.

I'd rather rely on Reed Doughty to start at Safety than rely on T Jax. The guy is a effing bum who can't pass a piss test to save his life. He hasn't played a single snap in 2 whole seasons. I am completely mind blown at how many times his name has been dropped in this thread and by people that seem to know wtf they are usually talking about.

And at the end of the day I don't want jackasses like this anywhere near my effing team. If smokin and jokin is his priorities then give him F Davis' # and been done w him already, good riddance.

I'm sure we had sincere interest in Mitchell, but not enough to pay him 5mill per year. We are too many players away to outbid other teams. I'm glad the FO realizes it.

I disagree completely.

In this safety market, $5MM/yr. was a good price for him. Remember, we would have probably paid him $3.5MM in the first year, with one player dropping out of the Top 51 at approximately $500K, so that would have been around a $3MM cap hit this year.

Plus, we have no decent safeties! We should have outbid the Steelers in this case. Bottom line: the FO failed to land the quality young safety that we need.

OR

the FO decided that their evaluation of him didn't equate to the $$$ he was asking for.

OR

he decided this team wasn't the right fit for him and his aspirations.

OR

he wants us to change the name before he joins the team.

First, I'm still waiting for a move in the safety position, and I'm disappointed we weren't able to get Byrd, or perhaps Mitchell. I agree the numbers didn't seem too high for Mitchell.

But to be clear, we did draft two young safeties last year. There's a remote chance Rambo gets better (?), and PThomas may come back healthy. We still have possibilities with Merriweather / Doughty again and perhaps d.Hall in the future. They are all sub-par with question marks but we do have some options. By strengthening a pass rush, improving the LB core, and getting another good CB, we could still get by.

Finally, we could luck out on an old veteran that's dropped over the next few months after the draft and preseason to get us by for one more year...

We are way more then 1 safety away from being a good defense... Overpaying for a free agent on top of a crappy roster got us where?

This is a good point and I kind of see what Allen's plan is. He's trying to build a team through the draft. The modest signings are patching some things up, but he's not building through free agency. He needs a couple more really strong drafts before I see him being aggressive in free agency.

I also think he's expecting better play from some of our young players, and the ones that were injured last year.

Four years ago we all thought it would take Shanny a few years to get rid of the bad contracts and smart drafting for us to field a contender.

Now, we all think it will take Allen a few years to field a contender.

I dont think we are far off from having a chance with a healthy griffin but the rational side of my brain says in a few years, we will replace Allen and be talking about how we need a few years to field a contender.

Thank goodness we have RG3 or i would have zero hope going forward.

The point is they wouldn't have been overpaying in this market.

If no news is good news, then we must be in great shape with Corey Graham and Antonio Smith. Have there been any updates?
